I was privileged to witness one of the greatest test innings of all time, Sir Ian Bothams magnificent 149 not out against Australia at Headingley in 1981. One man almost single handedly winning a test match and turning the entire series round. England had followed on 200 plus runs behind and the england management were so convinced they were going to lose they had already booked out of the hotel.
Add to that his first innings 50 and six wicket haul and you have the making of a legend.
Aldaniti won the 1981 Aintree Grand National. What was so special is that the winning jockey, Bob Champion returned to ride the horse to victory just 2 years after being diagnosed with testicular cancer and was given just months to live. It was a heart-warming story of bravery against all the odds as the horse itself had also battled back from chronic leg problems. It has gone down as one of the greatest sporting moments of all time and was even made into a film.

The 1985 World snooker final between Steve Davis and Dennis Taylor that was decided on the final black in the 35th and last frame. As a lifelong Davis fan that result brings back unhappy memories but for sheer drama and tension I have not witnessed many sporting moments that match it. Taylor produced an epic fightback after a horrendous first session of the final and ultimately deserved his victory on the strength of that.
Tiger woods at the 1997 masters the start of a era of a man perfecting his craft he destroyed the field and he was 4 over par after the first 9 holes of his first round.

That Ashes test series was the best test series I have ever seen. I saw all those games live on channel 4. The drama was there in every single day of the 5 tests. The whole nation got into it, no wonder they called it Ashes fever. Great choice, really, very good, for one of the best sporting moments ever witnessed.
same here, i was having lunch when england won the edgbaston test on the sunday then played crikcet that afternoon even though my side lost it was a great. my side and the oppo were talking and drinking about the test. the scenes outside the old trafford test on the last day where 20000 people were turned away yet stayed. about 8m people watched the last day of the oval test highest viewing figures for c4 that year beating the big brother (shite programme ever) final.
Oh man that must been great when you and your opponents were talking about it. I'm not from birmingham, so i sensed the hyped when the aheses test series came to Edgbaston, were england dramatically won it, great scenes!!!!! And yes big brother is pure shit, but I'll admit to watching it when there were some hot girls on it like Jennifer Clarke. Man she was so hot
