I am a worker. i was the lucky one my grandfather gave me a job labouring for him and my uncle for there plumbing and gas fitting business while i worked my way thru college and University my friends were not as lucky as me. I manged to get where i am today because of luck.

in fact i should ideally be a tory voter late 30's professional with a degree and home owner

Shes been gone from the scene 22 years we all got on with our lives well the ones who could. in fact its only her death that has brought things up again hopefully after this week we can forget her and get on living

Yes, absolutely right. I didn't like her, but I didn't giver her a second thought when she was kicked out and certainly don't intend to now that she's passed.

There are far worse things than a deceased, former PM to worry about in the world!

These must be the rent a protest group that turn up to any protest at anything becasue that's what they think the young and students do.

Silly little children need to run along home before their mummy's see they are missing.

so your only allowed to be political if your over 30 thats what the right wing media and the tories want as they know people under 30 dont buy the telegraph express or the mail and they certainly dont vote tory

the youth got more right than most of us to protest at the moment with student debt to get degree and no chance of getting a job with or without a degree.

reminds me of me leaving school in 1990 after thatcher had her way and almost destroyed manufacturing in the north west before when u left school it was either college or you could work as an apprentice and work your way up into a skilled postion there was very few people unemployed
that all changed under the tories and thatcher.

we became more shirkers than workers. They will say the country had to be sorted out but the same had to be done with both France and Germany and they seemed to have done an awful lot better than us by retraining there workforce to make them comptetive.

thatcher and cronies made us into the sick man of europe not anyone else.

And i for one will be celebrating with a drink on wednesday and will be rememebering 2 close school friends who were writtern off by her and the goverment and who couldnt survive and never made it into there mid 20's always think what could have been of there lives. there will be 1000's 10'000s more like them im afraid thats whats the scandal not some kids partying !!

Sorry if i went on a bit just had to Type Wink

Very sad about your friends but don't put the ills of the 80's and 90's squarely on her shoulders. The rot started in the 60's. Tory or Labour they have both screwed the arse out of this country. In the 70's the unions became all too powerful, unelected by the nation but dictating policy to the Labour government. In the 80's the banks became too powerful, unelected by the nation but dictating policy to the Tory government. This country was in the shit well before Thatcher. She was not the anti-Christ, she was not a saint. She arrogantly believed her policies were correct and steadfastly refused ever to do a U-turn. Not an uncommon thing among politicians.
Believe me this current crop of Tories are far more dangerous and damaging to the people of this country and what's worse there is no credible, believable alternative in the Labour party either. The real power lies with the big corporations who spend millions lobbying governments and buying support for their interests around the world. As they say, on the backs of the workers do the bosses grow rich.

Yeah, those are the 'far worse things' I was thinking about. These Tory boys are running amok with their ideological politics, with Labour merely a paler shade of blue. The Lib Dems sealed their fate with an alliance that saw them betray their core manifesto and UKIP are just Fascists without the jack boots.

God almighty, it's enough to make you vote Monster Raving Loony! laugh

Can't rememer saying that, However, People protesting born After she was in power is as stupid as me protesting the government of Alec Douglas-Home.

Quote:the youth got more right than most of us to protest at the moment with student debt to get degree and no chance of getting a job with or without a degree.

No they haven't, a lot of students get in to debt by spending way beyound their means, they all seem to have the latest laptops and iphones. There are plenty of jobs without a degree, people now just think they are above certian jobs. Care work especially as a difficult time recruiting.

To say they have MORE of a right to protest about her then people living THROW her government when she's been out of power 20 years is just silly talk.

the unions ruined the indusrty in this country with there ever increasing demands every 5 minutes which meant it was cheaper to buy abroad than in your own country.

The was 3 million unemployed when she came to power, there wasn't when she left.

Quote:thatcher and cronies made us into the sick man of europe not anyone else.

And who's the sick man now? She was right to keep out of Europe and avoid the euro. That was just Brussels, Germany and France trying to dominate the rest of europe.

Pretty sure your friends had other issues, they weren't alone back then, most survived.

Thatcher campaigned for the "yes" to Europe movement in the 1975 referendum. She had nothing whatsoever to do with our decision not to enter the Euro, as she had been out of power for almost a decade by then.

It was Gordon Brown, when he was Chancellor, who kept us out of the Euro. He resisted intense pressure from Blair and it was probably the most sensible decision any politician has taken in the last 50 years.

RE: Margaret Thatcher Dead
but she did Sign up to the ERM when john major told her to which led to the 90's recession. which was then the biggest recession since the 1929 one. hence the reason gordon brown did steer well clear. I do remember that well cos my parents lost the family home due to interest rates going up to over 15% hence another reason cant stand her.

Wrong:

http://blogs.telegraph.co.uk/news/petero...te-europe/

Quote:But while Mrs Thatcher was fighting her lone battle against the prospective single currency abroad, she was being fatally undermined at home. Geoffrey Howe, her bitterest cabinet critic, went on television to tell the interviewer Brian Walden that in principle Britain did not oppose the euro.

She was against it, it was her main downfall within the cabinet

On Europe:

Quote:No, she was against the EU because of its desire to "extinguish democracy" by taking sovereign power away from European countries and to centralise it in a bureaucratic superstate or in her own words:

"That such an unnecessary and irrational project as building a European superstate was ever embarked on will seem in future years to be perhaps the greatest folly of the modern era. And that Britain, with traditional strengths and global destiny, should ever have become part of it, will appear a political error of the first magnitude".
Margaret Thatcher, from her book "Statecraft"

Note:

will seem in future years to be perhaps the greatest folly of the modern era
