RIP Terry Wogan

All the work he did for television and radio will never be forgotten. I'll always remember his work with the BBC covering Eurovision and Children In Need for many years. So many broadcasters looked up to him as the leader in his field, and it's yet another sad loss to the media and entertainment world.

RIP.

This is really shocking news, he pulled out of last year's children in need show because of ill health but he kept private how ill he really was. Thanks for making all those Eurovision's unmissable tv Sir Terry RIP

Sad news indeed. A much loved and respected broadcaster. RIP.

A very decent chap who tirelessly contributed so much time to good causes. Such a sad loss...RIP Tezza...

And in case any of you are wondering how an Irishman born in Limerick could be "Sir Terry" (when Bob Geldof, for example, only received an honorary knighthood and cannot call himself "Sir Bob") it is because until 1949 Irish born citizens were automatically regarded as dual-citizens of the UK, and Wogan kept his dual-nationality.

Will be a great loss

I will remember Terry Wogan as the versatile broadcaster par excellence with the human touch.
Come Dancing, Blankety Blank, Wogan, Eurovision amongst other things for television.
But it was his contribution to radio broadcasting that I and so many others will miss the most.
The TOGS (Terry's old geezers and gals) will feel his loss acutely today. His gentle ironic charm, wit and self deprecating nature endeared him to millions.
His loathing of rehearsals and numerous takes was apparent throughout his career. He liked to do and say on instinct.
And he could afford to do so with such a sense of imagination and speed of thought. Blessed with impeccable timing and
a lilting tone that made it almost impossible to switch off the wireless. The silliness, the involvement of his listeners in so many ways, the clear affection he had for them and for what he did was as outstanding as it was charming.

And then there was Children In Need.
What an outstanding contribution to an outstanding cause he made. He became the face, the voice and the figurehead of not just the appeal but all that it represented as well.
The sincerity and warmth of his appreciation for every donation no matter how small felt and sounded so obviously genuine.
It is no wonder that he was held in such high esteem by those that worked alongside him and those entertainers that gave of their time to be there on Children In Need nights themselves.

The eclectic mix of his broadcasting career and his equally natural ability on television and radio set him apart.

But more than that Terry Wogan was the very essence of humility, fun, decency, believability, sincerity and warmth.

My heart goes out to his family at this time.
