So someone at the passport office is making lots of money out of us.
Out of curiosity I looked this up and your suggestion isn't close.
Since the £72.50 fee was established the annual recovery of the costs of providing passports has been reported to Parliament as follows:
2013/14 - 118% cost recovery
2014/15 - 113%
2015/16 - 116%
2016-17 - 131%
The passport office are therefore making money out of us, as you stated, but nowhere near the amount that you were suggesting.

All this 'outrage' over the passport contract is bullshit on so many levels.
In the new post Brexit 'golden age' where we're trying to sell our goods and services across the world we'll be hoping to be treated fairly and get the business on merit. And yet, when the position is reversed, it's somehow wrong?
And there's no reason the passports have to be substandard just because it's cheaper. It's not like they're being made in some third world country using sweatshop labour. The savings could be in efficiency, or De La Rue thought they were a shoo-in for the contract and tendered accordingly (because no British company has ever ripped off the taxpayer... )
British goods and services should be as good as anything in the world. They should aspire to be the best in the world. But it's not a divine right.

RE: Europe, Referendum & Brexit ( formerly Europe..IN or OUT??)
That is not what this story was about, it was about the illegal use of campaign financing
but since you bring it up, they said there that they bombarded 7m people with 1.5bn adds, in the last 10 days of the campaign particularly in the last 3, that works out at 214 pro brexit adds per person, 21 a day at least since most took place at the end there. Baring in mind that the allegations state that they were working in conjuncture with Cambridge Analytica so using there algorithms they would know which people to target: swing voters and the undecided
Are you saying that 21 adverts a day on 7m suggestable individuals had no affect whatsoever?
If i could find a girl that had the looks of Gal Gadot, breasts of Sophie Mudd with Demi Rose's ass, the personality of Jessica Ennis, the grace of Kendall Jenner on the red carpet and then behind closed doors the raw sexual energy of Nicole Snow i'd know i was dead and gone to heaven, so i'll just take Demi Rose's ass and Nicole's sexual energy
