RE: Star Trek Picard
I am very much looking forward to this series, TNG is my series and Picard is my Captain. What I am worried about is that when Stewart first announced it he said that it would be a different Picard and the teaser heavily suggests that he is a changed man. Even though I have apprehension about the change in the character because I love the Picard we all know, I am more concerned about the reaction of die hard fans. As we have seen with Discovery they are completely closed off to any change what so ever, all they want is a purism that adheres to Roddenberry's original vision of a Utopian future. Try to do something darker like Discovery and they rebel against it, rendering it rubbish and declaring that it is "not Star Trek". They also try to cast it in the same light as The Orci & Kurtzman films that have an alternate reality, a Discovery alternate universe. Discovery is not an alternate universe it is the same as the other Start Trek series and it is brilliant.
We see this again and again when people try and make changes to anything when an adaptation, reboot or continuation occurs, you could probably sight a million examples. Daniel Craig is "not Bond", The Last Jedi: "That's not my Luke Skywalker", Man of Steel: "That's not Superman", Batman v Superman: Batman being entitled and violent is "wrong", Steve Rogers becoming a fascist and Captain America being black or Daenerys becoming the villain. The criticism is rooted not in the execution, which may be bad, but in the idea itself. One of the worst ones was that Gal Gadot was criticised for her breasts not being big enough to play Wonder Woman. It's a sad indictment of the state of our culture that we are so closed off to new ideas.
I am worried about what this inevitable backlash will do to Patrick Stewart. You look at the response from Game of Thrones actors to the fan petition, they see it as insulting after all the work they have put into it. I dread that after all the work that Stewart will have put into this series with the love, care and professionalism that we know that he will give it, he will be hurt at the response of the very loud and visceral section of the Trek community, he will no doubt thing that he has hurt us which will hurt him more when all he aimed to do was try something new and grow the character that he has played for now 30 plus years.
If i could find a girl that had the looks of Gal Gadot, breasts of Sophie Mudd with Demi Rose's ass, the personality of Jessica Ennis, the grace of Kendall Jenner on the red carpet and then behind closed doors the raw sexual energy of Nicole Snow i'd know i was dead and gone to heaven, so i'll just take Demi Rose's ass and Nicole's sexual energy
