As an Englishmen, wud ne1 be crying if Rooney or Gerrard took a dive in the 90th minute of a world cup final with the score at 0-0? ote]

I reckon there'd be a different reaction from fifa.

Heartbreaking. The players did not deserve that - I've never seen 11 men give so much.

There is no hope of a replay though, not with FIFA/UEFA being the big corrupt boys club that it is.

If Ireland had won in such circumstances, Blatter would have had the game replayed so fast that the teams wouldnt have had time to leave the pitch.

Au naturale baby, that's how I like 'em. Swing low sweet chariots

RE: Ireland v France
The whole thing illustrates what is the biggest danger to football today. Every week whether in internationals or league matches there is a least a half dozen incidents of cheating whether it is cheats like Ngog at Liverpool or Bent at Sunderland diving to win penaltys, players going down clutching their face when they have been brushed on the shoulder, or rolling over 3 times like Robbie Savage at the merest tap.The Thierry Henry cheating was so blatant surely now the football authorities must act for the sake of football. FIFA won't order a replay unless France actually do the decent thing and ask for one (fat chance!) so the only sanction is to puinish Henry.Personaly I would like to see him banned from the world cup (unlikely) but at least he should miss their 3 group matches,
Early on in the season FIFA finally looked to be getting some backbone in handing down a 2 match ban to Eduardo after he cheated his way to a penalty for Arsenal, but no as soon as Arsenal assembled an expensive legal team FIFA backed off straight away and in doing so virtually made diving in the area part of the game, a green light for cheats.
As for the Anelka dive he clearly never had any intention of going for anything other than a penalty and took the opportuinity to deliberately make contact with Given with his foot and is every bit as much cheating as Henry.Although thanks to Arsenal and Wenger any time a goalkeeper dives at a players feet a penalty will almost always result.
The normally vociferous Messrs. Platini and Blatter who usually have so much to say seem to have gone into hiding! What is needed now is for the authorities to say enough is enough and anyone found to be cheating (whether by handball, diving or feigning injury) will be punished severely and lets clean up the game before its to late (I suspect it already is)
Incidentally I don't blame the ref he had a very good game apart from that decision and to suggest he was part of some match fix is ludicrous, he just didn't get any help from his assistant when he needed it.

THe only thing fifa is really interested in is money, primarily from tv revenue and secondly from advertising. It needs the bigger 'name' players for both and the bigger name countries as well. Anelka, ribery, henry will bring in more tv revenue and more advertisers than keane, duff and given. The only answer that i can see is for the irish fa to sue all concerned individually ie Henry, the french fa, the referee/linesmen/fourth official (let's not forget it was the fourth official having access to a video who got zidane sent off last time), and finally fifa with whom they have a written contract in the form of the rules of the game. Hit fifa where it will hurt - financially.

Maybe Eire should be given a wildcard entry to the finals in the same group as France Big Grin

Thank you and goodnight!

Yeah surely they've got to bring technology in. Shit like this happens a lot, remember the Italian who dived in the final minute and got the pen against Australia at the last WC?

The worlds most popular sport and still no technology thanks to Sepp Blatter not being interested.

They should make a three challenge rule in every match. The team who thinks a decisions wrong gets to have a video challenge. For a pen that was or wasn't, an unfair booking, goal line technology or an offside. They get three video challenges, once they use them up they have no more for the match and it goes on the refs decision.

I don't blame Henry for doing what he did. I blame those who oppose having video refs. The technologies there so use it, or get injustices like this.

I can't believe the number of people defending Henry, the video is there for all to see, he is clearly looking at the ball and uses his hand to control it not once but TWICE. To suggest as some have done that it was purely instinctive is patently absurd, he knew full well what he was doing so why not call it what it is, no matter how skillfull he may have been at the height of his career, he cheated!

Blatter's argument against the use of technology is, and always will be the same......If you use it, it has to be across the board, worldwide, and at EVERY professional game, otherwise it's not a level playing field. Plainly put, some of the poorer countries that participate in W/C qualifiers, or even ordinary league matches etc, simply can't afford it. Silly as it sounds, you can't have video replays in a France vs The Republic Of Ireland World cup game, but not have them in say, an Afghanistan vs Iraq game, where the end goal is the same, i.e qualifying for the World Cup finals.

Remember, in this country these days we have god knows how many cameras at 90% of our Premiership and League games, placed at every angle so we never miss a trick, and EVERYTHING is seen by the camera and nothing is missed.........It wasn't always that way however, and for an awful lot of footballing nations worldwide, it still isn't.

Don't get me wrong, i'm all for technology and 9 1/2 times out of ten Blatter's an arsehole, but like it or not, on this one he does have a point.

RE: Ireland v France
So why the fuck doesn't the pidheaded kunt have the 2 lino's either side of each goalmouth like they tried in the Europa League at the very least? I do feel sorry for Ireland because getting cheated out of games is always a wanky way to lose it (although I am positive all of Ireland found Maradona's handball against England in 1986 fucking hilarious, and every way England have been fucked over since then, so they shouldn't moan so much) but there is no chance of the game being replayed, the rules state if play has re-commenced or the referee has terminated the game, every goal stands as the ref said they should, that is just the way it is. And brummie people are defending Henry because quite frankly, can you blame him? In extra time getting outplayed in a game to get to the World Cup Finals, of course he was going to do what he did, it was instinctive in that he instinctively knew if he cheated there they would get a goal. 99.99999% of players in his position would of done the exact same thing and you know it. The biggest travesty here is the lino, they used computers and..... shit to put the camera over his his shoulder to show what he would of seen the moment Henry handled it, he had an absolutely perfect view, not obstructed in any way, if you cannot see a player handball a ball twice from half the width of the pitch away, you are a useless prick who cannot do your job in any decent way at all. And fuck knows what the ref was doing, just strolling along not even attempting to get a decent view.

You're not for this world, this world is for you.
