Ron 'Chopper' Harris.

No messing about. If the winger was faster than him, tough shit. Ron would, let's be honest, assault them.

He was a brute, no doubt, but not as hard as Brentford's Terry Hurlock.

Now, THAT was a fuckin' animal.....

colino Wrote:Sounds like a very similar player to Jan Molby in his heyday at Liverpool. He very rarely left the centre circle, but for a different reason: He was physically incapable!! Same deal though, very influential and his range of passing was spectacular and hardly ever off.

When everyone else was drooling over Barnes or Rush, I always saved my admiration for Molby and Steve Nicol from the Liverpool side of that time period. Mind you, I played full back or sweeper (the old fashioned, German style sweeper. Not the modern, extra centre back kind) for my junior side, so it's hardly surprising. Big Grin

George Best, what pisses me off is all these useless pundits like Hanson and Linekar go on about all these so called greatest players of all time lists including players like Maradona nothing more than a fat drug taking cheat, Pele, Messi, Ronaldo but never mention George Best one thinks if he was english maybe he would get a mention. Bestie could do it all pass shoot head tackle dribble and shagged 5 miss worlds could of been 7 but he didn't up to two.
Give George some credit.

I think no one has ever forgotten George Best. And I'm not getting on your case, but Best is hardly a forgotten footballer.

Duncan McKenzie, Leeds, Everton, Anderlecht, sorry if I've missed any out. Could jump over a Mini from a standing start and smoked 20 fags a day.

RE: Favourite Forgotten Footballers
Couldn't resist this as I remember my old man going on about him. Same reason, old man, that I have an interest in Blackpool results.

F'ng remember he was that well regarded he got the OBE.

Bernhard Carl "Bert" Trautmann, OBE (born 22 October 1923), is a retired German footballer who played for Manchester City from 1949 to 1964. Brought up during times of inter-war strife in Germany, Trautmann joined the Luftwaffe early in the Second World War, serving as a paratrooper. He fought on the Eastern Front for three years, earning five medals including an Iron Cross. Trautmann refused an offer of repatriation, and following his release in 1948 he settled in Lancashire, combining farm work with playing as goalkeeper for local football team St Helens Town.
Performances for St Helens gained Trautmann a reputation as an able goalkeeper, resulting in interest from Football League clubs. In October 1949 he signed for Manchester City, a club playing in the highest level of football in the country, the First Division.
Named FWA Footballer of the Year for 1956, Trautmann entered football folklore with his performance in the 1956 FA (Football Association) Cup Final. With 17 minutes of the match remaining Trautmann suffered a serious injury after diving at the feet of Birmingham City's Peter Murphy. Despite his injury he continued to play, making crucial saves to preserve his team's 3–1 lead. His neck was noticeably crooked as he collected his winner's medal; three days later an X-ray revealed it to be broken.
Trautmann continued to play for Manchester City until 1964, making 545 appearances. After ending his playing career he moved into management, first with lower-division sides in England and Germany, and later as part of a German Football Association development scheme that took him to several countries including Burma, Tanzania and Pakistan. In 2004 he was appointed an honorary Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for promoting Anglo-German understanding through football.

Football without frontiers.

Some of this (sic) may have been garnered from another site. Bikipedia.

Twenty fags a day, Johan Cruyff would smoke that before breakfast, now that was a great smoker...Big Grin
