Naked In Theatre

Thought it would be useful to have a thread to showcase examples of artistic nudity in genuine legit theatre. Appreciation of the human form unencumbered by clothing has a place in The Arts and should not be forced into single theme sex-ghettos. Anyone who finds this at all erotic and indulges in 5 finger applause is a philistine who does not appreciate the finer side of culture. Remember, this is legit theatre, probably subsidised by taxpayers somewhere, watched by ultra-respectble mixed audiences and sometime broadcast on respectable TV channels.

Here is the first example, an amazing performance by dancer Lisbeth Gruwez, in the play 'Quando l'uomo principale è una donna" by the Flemish choreographer Jan Fabre. Held at the Biennale Lyon (France) in 2004. Note the logo of Spanish state broadcaster TVE.

Skateguy you anticipated my next post brilliantly. Thanks for the links, I'll do some more research over the weekend. Had not realised this featured the same dancer - clearly very talented, and a welcome guest on BabeStation's Got Talent any day. What really tickles me is the way she climbs all over the guy, crouching naked on his shoulders at one point.

By the way - warning to people browsing this thread - I did not post these and cannot re-up them if they are taken down, so enjoy them while you can.

Here is an alternative offering, titled NOS-LEG._DERANGEM.DU_REEL (outtake 5), which probably translates as The Deranged Legends or something similar. A panel of 5 looneys in Elizabethan dress watch nude dancers in astonishment. The scene where a naked man and woman are joined at the head by a giant studded condom symbolises the essential unity of male and female yada yada yada. 1 min 45 sec.

Les Amantes (The Lovers)

Tagged "Official" this is a video by Liuba Ce, a work on couples and love. He speaks of the love and power of the senses. It also ambiguous about the separation between public and private space. It is a tribute to Magritte's painting The Lovers.

A couple are at an Art exhibition in the Galarie Parisud (Paris South), surrounded by art lovers, when they don masks to preserve their own private spaces but loose their clothes and show that they love each other very much before reversing the sequence by putting their clothes back on, removing their masks, and mingling with the other art lovers.

Non-explicit, but it's clear that he's a big boy.

Remember the old Levi's advert where a hunk goes into the launderette, strips down to his keks and waits like that until his jeans have finished washing, much to the disgust of Dot Cotton?

This is the operatic equivalent, featuring a hot ballerina who reminds me of a fit young Tammy Oldham in her non-ginger days. And her knicks go in the wash. The way she sits on vibrating washing machine goes some way to explain why so many women are keen to give up work and do washing all day.

This is more about modern music than dance or theatre, but is still interesting. A couple play fight. Every movement is accomanied by a percussive sound. It's not John Cage but what is. Look carefully and you can see the bearded musician at the back, beside the blue steel column, seemingly operating an Apple Mac. Figures.

A couple of clips from talented contemporary dancer Alessandra Cristiani

In the first a naked woman becomes conscious of, and explores her naked body (not as raunchy as it sounds, but sensuous and involves cherries), then throws herself around stage in a revealing way. Finally she puts on a long black dress (and no knickers), writes something anguished on a blackboard ("You can not see me from where (look at myself"), plays the violin and performs another anguished dance, perhaps about the high cost of knickers.
