Wind River

Cory Lambert is a wildlife officer who finds the body of an 18-year-old woman on an American Indian reservation in snowy Wyoming. When the autopsy reveals that she was raped, FBI agent Jane Banner arrives to investigate. Teaming up with Lambert as a guide, the duo soon find that their lives are in danger while trying to solve the mystery of the teen's death.

Another easy recommend for me

xXx: Return of Xander Cage - 6/10.

Sure it was entertaining, but they missed the mark too many times, pointless (Neymar Jr.) or underused (Tony Jaa) characters, ott stunts that relied far too much cgi, if they had dialed back one or two things and filled the story and characters out a little more, it would have got a higher score from me. The potential sequel is an interesting prospect, but they will need to flesh it out better imo. Better writing and character development is a must.
All in all, a bit of fun, didn't regret watching it.

Wish Upon

Jonathan Shannon (Ryan Phillippe) gives his 17-year-old daughter Clare (Joey King) an old music box that promises to grant its owner seven wishes. Skeptical at first, Clare becomes seduced by its dark powers when her life starts to radically improve with each wish. Everything seems perfect until she realizes that every wish she makes causes the people who are closest to her to die in violent and elaborate ways.

In all honesty it was a "Die alread" type movie for me, I didn't care for any of the characters and couldn't wait for it to end.

6/10 Disappointed!

IT (2017)

Based on the 1986 novel by Stephen King

A group of bullied kids who call themselves the losers club hunt for a demon in the shape of a clown called Pennywise who takes a child from their hometown every 27 years.
The young cast are very believable in their roles, and I definitely prefer this version to the 1990 one.

Immortal Gentleman(1935)

Whilst enjoying each other's company in a Southwark tavern,William Shakespeare and his friends observe their fellow patrons and notice that their conversations seem to run parallel with scenes from his plays.Basil Gil,Rosalinde Fuller and Dennis Hoey were all in their element with lengthy and intelligent dialogue.

Blade Runner: 2049

The much anticipated sequel to the 1982 Sci-Fi classic has finally arrrived and it's better than the first Blade Runner & is the film of 2017 so far.

Set 30yrs after the first Blade Runner and it follows a new Blade Runner called K who is retiring replicants that have survived from the events in the first Blade Runner in 2019

The special effects are mindblowing and there are twists & shocks throughout the film right from the start and the action sequences are very good.

All the cast are excellent especially Ryan Gosling, Harrison Ford, Sylvia Hoeks & Ana De Armas

10/10

Action Jackson (1988)

Starring Carl Weathers, Craig T Nelson, Vanity & Sharon Stone

Thin on plot but with plenty of thrills this is a highly enjoyable 80's action film.

24 Hour Party People (2002) The life and times of larger than life Tony Wilson, Granada TV reporter, owner of Factory Records and the Hacienda nightclub. An episodic but enjoyable biography helped by Steve Coogan very good as Wilson, a funny, literate script and good support work from Danny Cunningham (sounding and behaving like Shaun Ryder), Sean Harris as Ian Curtis and Andy Serkis as producer Martin Hannett. It also captures something of the Happy Mondays chaotic, hedonistic lifestyle. Also starring Lennie James,Shirley Henderson,Paddy Considine, John Simm(Bernard Sumner),Peter Kay and Rob Brydon. 6.5/10

Blade Runner 2049 - 6/10 after all the amazing reviews i went into the cinema with high expectations but it really is vastly overrated. While the special effects and cinematography are admittedly impressive, at 163 minutes the film is way too long and nowhere enough happens to justify that length running time. Its all star cast are vastly underused and that includes Harrison Ford. Robin Wright and Ana De Armas are fine but Dave Batista and Jared Leto are given hardly screen time and the main villian is given no background story whatsoever.

Overall ok but film of the year it most certainly is not.

Rosemary's Baby(1968) Mia Farrow and John Cassavetes star as a young couple moving into a New York flat, when Farrow falls pregnant, strange things start to occur. A very effective horror film with very little gore, not many shocks and bumps, but an atmosphere of unease and plot surprises including surreal, creepy dream sequences. Farrow is superb and realistic throughout, backed by a fine performance from Cassavetes and a gallery of excellent veterans including Ruth Gordon, Ralph Bellamy, Elisha Cook Jr,Stanley Blackmer, Maurice Evans and Patsy Kelly. Fine direction and camerawork too from Roman Polanski in his US debut. Also starring Charles Grodin and the voice of Tony Curtis. 7.5/10
