The girl on the train 5/10 - average but watchable murder mystery.

Noah (2014)

An expensively assembled retelling, or re-imagining, of one of the Bible's most well known, but also one of the least plausible stories. There are strong performances from an all-star cast and the movie's production gives us impressive locations, photography, special effects and a musical score that are all quite breathtaking. Some scenes are difficult to watch, it is quite upsetting in some parts and some characters are underused. Having said that, a film of this nature relies heavily on the storytelling abilities of it's main stars to deliver the emotional impact of the film and this is received in huge amounts. I was pleasantly surprised overall with a film that could have been such a misguided failure, but is actually pretty good and worth a look - the main ensemble cast of Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ray Winstone, Emma Watson, Anthony Hopkins, Logan Lerman and Douglas Booth all excel in their roles. 3/5

Ingrid Goes West(2017)

One of the funniest and darkly satirical films of last year from director Matt Spicer.The story follows Ingrid as she stalks LA "influencer" Taylor both online and off completely skewing the lifestyles of the rich and internet famous with deadly precision,highlighting artificial behaviour and attention seeking via uncomfortably believable characters and dialogue.Aubrey Plaza and Elizabeth Olsen are both fantastic in the leading roles.

Logan (2017);

Third film of the Wolverine Trilogy & Hugh Jackman's final appearance as the iconic Superhero is set in the near future where many of the mutant population have died out. Logan (Wolverine) is feeling the effects of the aging process which has rapidly slowed down his healing powers which he claims is causing him to die off through Adamantium poisoning (what his skeletal system is infused with).

Logan moonlights between working as a Chauffeur Driver & a Carer for his mentor & an aging & ill Charles Xavier (Patrick Stewart) who live in an old abandoned Outpost on the Mexican Border with fellow mutant Caliban (Stephen Merchant).
Due to unexpected events both Logan & Charles end up on the run protecting a young mutant Laura (Dafne Keen) from a sinister organization Transigen but as it happens Laura isn't no ordinary mutant she shares the same DNA as Logan/Wolverine pretty much a Mini-Wolverine complete with matching razor-claws & anger issues proving that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree.

This is a much darker & grittier film than a majority of Superhero films with the gore factor only matched by Deadpool but Logan provides plenty of wit with his cutting one-liners with one of the noteable moments when he is reading through an X-Men comic book he is literally taking the piss out of it.
Hugh Jackman has put so much into the role of Wolverine for the 10 or so films he has appeared in from physical aspects to the wit & the loveable-rogue like character he is,Jackman has made the Wolverine character his own & made it almost impossible for anyone else to take over the role.

Jackman absolutely nailed it in which he gives Logan/Wolverine a fitting send off but the star of the film goes to young child star Laura (Dafne Keen) who puts so much menace into her performance as a scowling,pocket-rocket Mini-Wolverine character. 9/10.

The Sweeney (2012)

Gritty, raw, hard-as-nails British cop thriller, loosely based on the Seventies tv series. Ray Winstone is in his element as DI Jack Regan (John Thaw's role in the original) - the sweary, punch and shoot first, ask questions later - kind of character we've become so accustomed to seeing him as. Ben Drew (aka rapper Plan B) plays his sidekick DC George Carter. I thought there were long sections in the film which were unnecessary, plus I thought there was a sense of the movie ticking boxes in the diversity stakes with regards to nationality, ethnicity, age and gender. Would have liked to see more of Hayley Atwell's character too. All that said though, it's still an exciting crime caper packed full of exhilarating car chases, no-holds barred shoot outs, and bone crunching fights and it succeeds in bringing the source material in to the modern age. A heart-stopper for adrenaline junkies. Damian Lewis, Paul Anderson, Steven Mackintosh, Alan Ford and Allen Leech co-star. 3.5 / 5

^

I admit I wasn't expecting much when I heard they was remaking The Sweeney as no-one could ever replicate old Jack Regan like John Thaw but as a film in truth after watching it I was pleasantly surprised & really liked it.And whilst it didn't really have the feel of the iconic un-PC 70's series but in truth neither did the brilliant Equalizer movie remake starring Denzil Washington (he was nothing like Edward Woodward's iconic character).
The only part of the Sweeney film that had me throwing up in my mouth was seeing the lovely Hayley Atwell going at it with an old & grizzelled Ray Winstone,a great film apart from that.
