The Post

Really good. Not as good as All the President's Men or Spotlight (which are two of my favourite movies), but a worthy addition to the canon of great films about journalists breaking a story.

There's a nice little nod to All the President's Men towards the end as well.

The Old Dark House(1932)

A deliciously camp black comedy from James Whale.Opening on a dark night during a severe storm,a group of stranded revellers take shelter in the old dark house of the title.Home of the eccentric Femm family and their brutish, alcoholic butler called Morgan brought to life brilliantly by Boris Karloff who has evil thoughts concerning one of the female stranded played by Gloria Stuart.

Habit

Bizarre film featuring some bloke getting drawn into a seedy underworld after dark.
Mainly set somewhere in Manchester, and in particular a sinister brothel.
A mixture of different genres going on. Part drama, part horror/gore, little bit gangster flick. It stays serious though.

Anyway, my main reason for seeking this out was that Roxanne Pallett being in it.
She got dolled up pretty well, and she has her moments, but you never really seem to get a decent prolonged look at her.
As far as she goes, there's nothing to challenge Lake Placid 3 here, despite the setting, but still worth a look.

Otherwise, as a film - 7/10. Not bad, if a bit slow at times. Different though.
There's quite a few ex-Shameless and soap actors in it. Not Paddy from Emmerdale, luckily.

The Night Strangler(1972)

A wonderful tv movie sequel to The Night Stalker directed by Dan Curtis and starring Darren McGavin as Carl Kolchack,a reporter now based in Seattle Washington investigating a series of murders on women for their blood.Similar deaths have been reoccurring every 21 years. This leads him to an alchemist who is seemingly 144 years old and committing the killings in order to prolong his life. With strong support from Jo Ann Pflug and Simon Oakland.

Solo: A Star Wars Story

A very good 2nd Star Wars spin-off film that introduces us to Han Solo & shows how he becomes the Han Solo we see in episodes 4-6 (the original Star Wars trilogy) including how he meets Chewbacca

Alden Ehrenreich is very good as the young Han Solo & Donald Glover is just as good as the young Lando Calrissian. Emilia Clarke also puts in a good performance as Qi’Ra along with Woody Harrelson as Beckett

The story & plot more than do their job of setting up Han for how he is in eps 4-6 helped by excellent special effects & action set pieces

8/10

Solo: A Star Wars Story 6.5/10 - an ok attempt to explain Han Solos background story but as everyone already knows what happens to the main protagonists it lacks the sense of uncertainty or emotional impact of the far superior Rogue One.
