There was even a message about it on BBC1 tonight. Only seen messages on ITV before.
Some details have been posted here

RE: Freeview news
Just saw the headline today on the BBC teletext pages (Business section) that Sky Sports News is being taken off freeview.
I wondered if this was something to do with the forthcoming new channel but when I read the details it said that Sky Sports News would only be available via Sky or Virgin later this year and the freeview channel (currently ch83) would become Sky Three (+ 1 hour)
Sky Three is already on ch11. Its not very good, seems a waste to put it on 2 channels.

A dude from Sky told me they would be doing that last year when I cancelled my sub.

SSN is one of the most popular Sky products and I guess they thought they were losing too many subscriptions putting it out for free.

Where's OfCom when you need them...? Smile

I remember reading somewhere that Sky Sports 1 will be launching on freeview later this year and will probably be a subscription channel , my guess is that it will be shown on ch83 and that Sky 3 will just be shown until launch the date , it looks like a cynical ploy by Sky to remove free to air sports news to persuade freeview sport lovers to subscribe to their sports channel as they will no longer have access to any form of fee sport , so will more than likely stump up their cash . i did read somewhere that the old Labour government were against this idea and it even got a mention at Prime Ministers question time

So just where will bb be then!? Virgin 1+1 seems the only likely candidate.
