Sad moments in comedy
This is a thread I've been enjoying elsewhere and thought I'd bring it here, with the added bonus that our nominations are embedded in the post as a clip, if at all possible.

First, I've been searching for about an 90 minutes now, for the scene from Early Doors when the regulars have a whipround for Eddie and his wife who are struggling to pay the phone bill. The way Eddie gets choked up as he tries to thank everyone when presented with the money really gets me blubbing. Alas, I can't find the clip anywhere. Every single episode is on youtube, and I still can't find the bloody scene in question.

Anyway, I think the acting in this clip from Fresh Prince is fantastic. I fill up everytime.

Personally, the final scene of Blackadder Goes Forth, when they go over the top into comedy history, must rate as the most poignent comedy moment ever,IMO

That moment from Blackadder is one of the finest pieces of television ever.
The Royle Family was always good at bringing in moments of real emotion, the scene in the bathroom between Jim and Denise when she's about to give birth is superb. And the episode when Nana died was brilliant too.

Agreed, thought I'd post a clip (hope you don't mind mate)
It certainly brought a tear to my eye. The final minutes had some great comedy lines even when they realised they were going to thier deaths and the final music, the slow motion of them going over the top and then the poppies growing on the battlefied was very moving. Excellent writing, a fitting end to a great series.

Absolutely right, and no scene was more moving for me than this one from the episode where they buried Grandad. It's from the morning after, when Rodney has a go at Del Boy for getting over his death so quickly. It starts about 1:20 into this clip:

Favourite babes remaining: Hannah Martin, Abbey B, Clare Richards, Paige Green, Becky Roberts, Abbee Kimberly, Electra

Del boy and Rodney stuck in the lift talking about the loss of Rodney's baby a classic moment of Drama and comedy, brilliant writing by john sullivan this really brought a lump to my throat.

Some great nominations/clips so far. I knew it wouldn't be long before the Blackadder one came up. Don't get me wrong, it did affect me first time I saw it, but I think the scene itself has become very cliched now.

This clip from Mitchell and Webb is played, for the most, purely for laughs, but the moment at around 4:12 chokes me up. Webb's acting at this moment in the scene is superb.
