It does make sense because Micah Richards refused a standby place which ended up going to Jagielka instead. England need players who want to play for the team, not sulkers like Micah Richards.

Richards has reason to be pissed off, he's been great this season and got overlooked for the original squad

At least Richards being pissed off gave Jagielka and Kelly their chances to join the squad ahead of him.

kelly will do the job when called upon, he has never let down liverpool and wont let england down. I think its great we have youngsters going rather than the normal lot

He must be kicking himself !

I can understand his frustration though, Jamie Carragher retired from International duty because Wes Brown was always selected ahead of him, so when you see players being selected ahead of you who you feel you've performed better than would you not have the right to have a little tantrum ?

I don't deny for a moment Kelly is a decent prospect, and I do agree with you it is always good to see so many young players given a chance, but a few selections I can't really get my head round.

Still, it might mean we actually do better without some of the old tried and tested players!

Kelly only made 10 appearances last season, whilst Richards played most of last season with Man City. You may say change is good, but what if that change doesn't benefit the team. I'm nearly considering Sweden might get out the group with France

Roy gave kelly his chance at liverpool and he played nearly all season with some excellent performances . Roy knows what kelly can do so maybe thats why he chose him.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but looks like Ferdinand has had a dig at Hodgson

Now the inclusion of Kelly is worth while just for that alone
