I got the same top but in orange to help be seen while on the road.

RE: Cycling
Yeah I cycled in that. It actually wasn't as bad here as it was about 3 weeks ago, the rain was less, and the winds were gusty but not too bad.
My new jacket got it's maiden trip as well, and fared very well I have to say, suitably impressed Smile

I've often said that for me, wind is far worse for cycling than rain. In rain, you put your water proofs on and get on with it, and if you get wet so be it, but there's nothing you can do to overcome winds. It can be like cycling through treacle at times, and the gusty winds can be lethal as it moves around, I've actually been blown across the road before, where I would have been right in the path of the traffic if there had been any there at the time!

RE: Cycling
I used to have disc brakes on my old bike. They are good there is no denying that, but are they worth forking out the extra cash for? That's your call.
By the way, disc brakes are brilliant, but sometimes if you're doing trialing or off roading, bits of shit and mud can clog the discs up and they aren't as effective until cleaned, but saying that I think that's common on all brakes full stop.

RE: Cycling
The high-end bikes always seem to have disk brakes these days, which kinda suggests they are good, but are they good enough to warrant the expense and hassle of after-fitting?
I guess it depends on what and where you are riding as much as anything. As a commuter, I prefer to stick with simpler things that can be quickly, easily and cheaply replaced/repaired, so I stick with standard v-brakes. Keep them in good condition, and change the pads regularly, and they are good enough for my needs, yours may be different Smile

One thing I never understood with disk brakes, do they just attach to any wheel, or do you need a special wheel with the disk attachment? That would be a no-no for me, as I have a tendency to break wheels quite frequently on the roads round my way.
I had a racer many years ago, the gear block on the rear wheel broke. I ended up having to replace the entire wheel as the block was a special cartridge fitting, and no-one had the tools to replace it, cost a fortune!

RE: Cycling
munch - Exactly my thoughts mate. I had the disc brakes and yes, they were a treat, but for commuting it is a luxury. Also they take more maintenance and looking after, so it is something to think about. However saying that it is cheaper to replace the disc brakes compared to V-brakes as you only have to replace the pads (and potentially the hub if by chance it got damaged) However with V-brakes over time you will wear out the rims on your wheel and have to replace them.

In answer to your question, yes, you need to get a new wheel set as well as the actual brakes themselves. Disc brakes require a hub built to accept the actual disc and this will also add weight to your bike. Make sure your forks will take on the hub, I think most do these days but worth checking.
