RE: Snooker
I don't get how an extra ball could work. Do they start like a respotted black? Do they only get 1 go at it? Surely anyone who'd just hit a 147 is going to have a hella job to prep for hitting one more?

A new golden ball rule is planned for this tournament. If a player makes a 147 break they will be given the opportunity to pot a golden ball worth 20 points to increase the break to 167.

Barry Hearn the Chairman of the WPBSA has signed off on the tournament, so presumably his sycophant Tubs Murphy will support it and try his hardest to earn the ranking points that will enable him to participate.

Make it financially worthwhile but challenging.
The golden ball must be potted after hitting at least two cushions first.
If successful the player wins £167,000 Cool.

The players who moan about venues in places like Leicester are not going to be thrilled at the (remote) chance of an event in Budapest.

RE: Snooker
The WSF Championship is on this week. It is the unofficial World Amateur Championship. I'll try to keep it simple if this hasn't been on the forum before.

The IBSF is the only official recognised body by the international Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Confederation of Billiard Sports (WCBS) to run amateur snooker events. Up to 2017 the winner of the IBSF World Amateur Championship got automatic membership of the WPBSA and professional status.

In 2018 the IBSF and the WPBSA had a rift which resulted in the WPBSA withdrawing the automatic professional status to the winner of the IBSF World Amateur Championship.

Instead the WPBSA started it's own body, the World Snooker Federation (WSF), to run unofficial amateur events. The WSF is not recognised by the IOC or the WCBS, and the winner of the IBSF World Amateur Championship is the official World Amateur Champion. However it's the winner of the WSF Championship who gets the membership of the WPBSA and professional status.

Kai Wai Cheung from Hong Kong won the WSF Championship beating Gao Yang 5-0 in the final. Kai gets a 2 year tour card and professional status for the 2024/5 and 2025/6 seasons.

Gao Yang was WSF junior champion in 2020 but fell off the tour and lost his professional status for the 2023/4 season as his tour card had expired and he wasn't in the top 64 after the 2023 World Championship. Gao Yang can still be invited to take part in professional tournaments as a wildcard and participated in the UK Championship this season, beating Ishpreet Singh-Chadha in the qualifying round but losing to Mark Davis in the next round.

RE: Snooker
Shout out to Joe O'Connor who has made the 200th official 147 maximum break in professional competition.
He did it in a Championship League encounter against Elliot Slessor which he won 3-2.
And to cap it all he did it in his home city of Leicester. A bit of history for him Smile.
