I hope I'm wrong, I hope he does a great job but if we go two seasons without the league there will be calls for him to go. Someone with a proven history of winning titles would have been given more time. Moyes because of his lack of history of being a winner, the fans are less likely to be patient. A 6 year contract is OOT, I think a 4 year contract would have been fair. If he had a successful first couple of season then extend it by a couple. 6 years is overkill, and if it goes wrong a lot of compensation to pay out.

Another thing I disagree with is some fans saying Moyes will need time. This is not the same as when Fergie took over. We were a sleeping giant back then much like Liverpool are now. This is a team that's just won the title. Moyes will need to deliver almost immediately.

Moyes is the ideal man for the job. All the big names are just that. Big names who think they are bigger than any of the many clubs they have managed. We want stability not a new big name every 18 months. With a modest budget Moyes has kept Everton in the top ten for 9 of his 11 years in charge. With a bigger budget, the support of a massive club and the experience of top business men I think he will do us proud in following on from Fergie. United would not hire someone on a whim or a gamble.

For stability to happen Moyes will have to be successful. He won't be around long if he isn't. Glazer's need the club to be successful. I'd rather a manager that has better chance of winning trophies then longevity because the latter is secondary to success at a club like Utd. With Fergie we had the luxury of both but he was a freak and will never be replaced.

My theory is Moyes was brought in because he won't demands loads of money like Mourinho. He worked on a much smaller budget at Everton. The debt is due to be wiped out in 2015 is what I've been reading from sources, now if that's correct, Moyes in the meantime will keep the club in the top 3 or 4 and competitive until that debt is wiped out. If after that time he can't deliver the league he'll be removed and replaced with someone who will have money to spend.

Hopefully Moyes can win a cup next season. Even the league cup just to get a trophy and build him some confidence. I expect us to be challenging for the league next season. Will be interesting to see who we buy or sell. I think Nani may well stay now. I think Rooney will be sold.

The big advantage for moyes, if he does have any issues fergies there to help him im sure, and moyes seems a very grounded chap, who im sure will turn to fergie if needed.
Mourinho for me has to much of a big ego, and seems to want to be the centre of attention, and it would be more about him than manutd, isnt interest in the youth policy, and bringing youngsters through, the thing i find pathetic about mourinho, he will only go somewhere he is loved, i dont think i have ever heard a manager come out with such a comment.
personally i dont like guy, and the way the british press, hang on his every word.

Time will tell if Moyes is the right man for the job. I'm old enough to remember a few of the lean 26 years before Fergie. I've not doubted many of his footballing decisions over the last 26 so if he thinks Moyes is the man then that's all I need for now.
Fact is Moyes is going to be the new manager so let's give him the chance and support him and the team. I doubt the team or the coaching staff are going to fall to pieces.

Unfortunately, that will be unacceptable. Moyes is a top bloke but Fergie is such a hard act to follow nobody might ever come close to repeating what he achieved. The managers job at Old Trafford could become as much of a poisoned chalice as the England manager's job.

Next season he will be given a bit of slack, and if Mourinho returns to Chelsea and Man City get their act together he might be forgiven if he finishes 3rd but at the very least he will have to have a good Cup/Champions League run. If he hasn't won the title or the Champions League in his 2nd season the knives will be out.

ps - it would be interesting to see what odds the bookies would offer on Man Utd being relegated within five years...and before you laugh too hard don't forget that that's what happened after Matt Busby retired!

im not sure about if he doesn't do well in champions league for a while I mean lets be honest for 27 years at 1 club fergies European cup record isn't great is it and the last few seasons never got out the group stages and last 16 this season isn't great either. I think they will probably just expect him to be challengeing for the league with everything at his disposal and Europe wud be a bonus!

United 40 years ago when Busby retired was a different era. Football itself is much more professional now than it was then. There was not the money involved in those days and players did not change clubs like they do now. Although there is less loyalty, the big money that the top teams generate nowadays means that the top clubs will remain just that; top clubs. The business management side of United is a corporate business run by executives who know a thing or two. They will not let the brand name of United take a dip. Business plans for the post Fergie era have been in place for some time I'm led to believe.

As it's Fergie's last match, will Utd be giving him a leaving present.
May I suggest a gold watch, because he must have worn his present one out.

David Moyes to last the full 6 years of his contract: most bookmakers offer around 11/4.

Rooney apparently had been upset because he had been left out for some matches this season. After he told Fergie he wanted to leave he then requested not to be played in the final home game of the season. It's a shame he has such a child like attitude as he does add an extra dimension on the pitch that United do miss. I could have seen him being a success by playing just behind two strikers next season but if the guy wants out best let him go and get someone else in.
