messi had to play well, not just win the world cup to be called the greatest of all time, even if argentina won tonight on pens it wouldn't mean messi is the greatest of all time as he done nothing tonight, he might be the greatest club player of all time though, his body language has been poor for a while now he always looks miserable like torres and rooney, look at suarez and ronaldo's body language when they play

Not the most exciting, flowing game but thats often the case with finals. Still it was enjoyable with nothing between the teams except for a great run and cross from Schurrle and a superb goal on the end of it. Germany have probably been the most consistent team throughout the tournament.

On on another note. Messi is getting a hell of a lot of criticism that is totally unfair. He is being compared to Maradona and Pele who performed amazingly in World Cups....with teams brimming with other talented players. However, the current Argentina squad is more a combative but unimaginative team with Messi the only true great. The guy is exhausted, both through the weight of expectation on him as well as the fact that he has not fully recovered his match fitness this season after injury.
Pele and Maradona, great as they were did not achieve the same level of success as Messi has done at club level either.

I guess this world cup didn't end all that bad, I get to see the Argentinians crying in failure an d watch the Germans rub it in the English faces again

One good thing - we won't have to hear that line again about no European team has ever won in the Americas.

Best team won, Argentina didn't have a shot on target tonight, says it all. And now back to Isabella and Ani

I've already adressed your question. Ronaldo wasn't playing in the final. Messi was. And whichever one of them was voted Balon d'or, the night was STILL about the best team.

Indidentally - Messi's just received the player of the tournament award. So your case is dismissed.

I don't think the Germans will see this as an opportunity to rub it in our faces.

We're nothing to them. They, along with the rest of the world have left us for dead in footballing terms.

Messi getting player of the tournament is a joke, james Rodriguez or Muller should have got that... Messi has been poor from start to finish..
