County Cricket 2013 Season

Sussex are one of the better sides in Div 1 with their fixtures against the top two should make for an interesting finish to the season.

It's a 3 horse race between Yorks ,Durham and Sussex .Durham have the best chance due to their game in hand .But they have to face Sussex home and away .Yorks also have to play Sussex at Hove .So whatever happens , Sussex are going to have a big say in the destiny of the Championship .Don't rule Sussex out .If they win the 3 matches against the top 2 they'll probably take the title .
Best scenario , is it goes to the last round of fixtures . That would make for a very exciting conclusion .I remember 3 years ago it came down to the last round of fixtures .But for a mad hour of wicket giveaways , Yorkshire would have been county champions .The following season they were relegated ! As a famous ex footballer / pundit used to say, "It's a funny old game !"*

Don't think the Yorkies are on their own with a top 2 finish followed by relegation the next year.

Can anyone explain how England named Stokes in the T20 squad yet he played a big part in the Durham match,but earlier in the season Ballance was selected for the T20 matches v New Zealand & was released 2 days into a 4 day match to join the England squad just to train & wasn't selected for either of the 2 matches.Not happy at all.Joe Root showed his class with a 90 not out in the 1st T20 V Australia but wouldn't he have been better serving England by honing his skills opening the batting for Yorkshire in the same match that they allowed Stokes to play in.

I tend to agree that the England call ups do make a mockery of championship fixtures these days. However the ECB plough in loads of monies to the counties so something we have to put up with these days.

Seems to me once a player is selected for England at whatever form of cricket ,they look reluctant to return back to domestic cricket .You can understand it though ,playing for their country in high profile televised games with often capacity crowds in attendance .Contrast that enviroment to a game in championship cricket with barely a thousand spectators .I know Yorkshire got a "big" crowd against Durham on all 4days recently , but I'm talking in general terms with all counties .We all no the score ,we all want our best players at our respective counties to be selected for England . But we all know once they're selected ,they become England's servants forever .It seems like to be successful in county cricket ,you need a strong neucleus of fringe test players who rarely make the final squads .Its been this way since central contracts and I can't see it ever changing .Just for instance ; How many times have Surrey / Hants /Notts been able to select KP ? Or Lancashire with Jimmy Anderson ? To name just 2 players who rarely turn out in any domestic cricket .When England dispense with these two ,the players will mostlikely retire from all cricket straight away .

112 &116 ! Bet they don't cave in so easily next week .

I can understand you frustration however I think one or two other teams in Div 1. are more deserving of that tittle this season

Durham played Sussex at the perfect time,yes Durham were without Stokes,but Sussex lost Joyce,Wright & Jordan who were invloved in the England V Ireland ODI.

I do hope Yorkshire's loss to Sussex in the first match doesn't come back to haunt them.

Durham have won 2 more games than any other side,but do have the advantage of playing on result pitches.
