I am well aware of the problems that Monty has had just lately but he is still a far better spinner than Tredwell. As for the the Aussie lineup, Watson unlike the England players could be considered a genuine all rounder and Johnson is a strike bowler who bats a bit, add to them, Mckay, Faulkner and Ahmed and you have a have decent attack.

Sorry I was not implying you were not aware of Monty's recent, shall will say misfortune. The reason I mentioned it is I believe it means he would never be considered for a call up at this stage so soon after it. I do believe he has a great chance of being in the party to tour Oz and that the management probably feel it is better for him to be playing 4 day cricket for Essex at this moment in time whilst the dust settles.

That is true but he did break a finger on 11 August and was ruled out for 3 to 4 weeks. The England ODI squad was announced on 27 August.

Actually i,m sorry as well my 'i am well aware' comment was badly phrased, i took no offence at the valid point you were trying to make. I am sure the selectors took Monty,s recent indiscretions into account when they left him out of the squad, my real issue is with direction Giles is taking the side,

To be fair to Giles,Andy Flower still has overall control which is why Test Match players have been rested.Against any other nation I wouldn't be that bothered, but you should never give Australia an inch.Look at the way they celebrated with a series win,we should've sent em home with nowt.Let's hope India kick their arses in the forthcoming series.

At the end of the day ,they short changed the paying public with the squad selection ,even Michael Vaughan stated this recently .Funny how the one-day squad was announced after all the tickets were sold !
When England play Australia it's supposed to be the highlight of the fixture list .Therefore , the strongest possible squad should have been selected .Bet the players who were "rested" were very disappointed not to be playing .
What was it 5 games over 15 days ? . Which in reality turned out to be 3 and a bit games over 15 days . Hardly a gruelling schedule ,since now they have the best part of 2months off until the next games .
It's time people realised how long on average each player actually spends on the field of play .In a 5day test they probably spend half the match sat in the pavillion !
Unless they're bowlers , bowling 30 overs per innings , I don't see why they need to be rested at all . Some of these players have played less than 40 days cricket from May 1st to August 31st inclusive .

RE: England V Australia 2013-14 Ashes - ODI & T20 Series
Although the first part of the summer was good with England's test side winning the Ashes fairly convincingly the ODI series was a poor effort by a mostly inexperienced side, dont get me wrong bringing in new players from time to time can be a positive move, but to rest the three bowlers that played a big part in winning the ashes when our top order batsmen failed was too complacent and something that will give the Aussies a definate advantage in November.

im always open to positive change
