"Punk attitude", from Sky Arts, although it turns out to be over a decade old (which explains why some contributors looked well, given that they have since died), and from Don Letts. Since the UK stuff is pretty familiar, it was the US angle that gave it some difference. That said, when Jello Biafra goes "we wanted to make music like Alice Cooper's shock rock, only about real things, not vampires", you just think "dude, haven't you ever LISTENED to an Alice Cooper song?" I mean, it really was a politician's response.

BBC 4 seem to be on a Beatles trip tonight, but it seems to be repeats of stuff shown earlier in the year and even longer ago (Magical Mystery Tour documentary right now, that's a few years old I'm sure ?)

I have a really nagging feeling that "Blackadder, Blackadder" Howard Goodall did an almost identical taking apart of the tracks of Sgt Pepper for a previous anniversary (40th ? 30th?).
Maybe I am imagining it though.

I saw the US tribute band "Rain" do a live "50 years of Sgt Pepper" concert recently where they played most of the Beatles singles and most of the other most celebrated album tracks, including doing the whole Sgt Pepper album, complete with requisite costume changes and etc.
Impressive.
The guy impersonating George Harrison particularly rocked "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" ,doing the Eric Clapton guitar solo.
OK all the psychedelic stuff is easier these days with an extra guy on stage with synthesizers and samplers to provide all the orchestral/ difficult bits, but even so.
Surprisingly they left out "Strawberry Fields" and "Penny Lane".
I know they weren't on the album, but they did most of the other main singles up to then and after that. They also left put everything on Magical Mystery Tour, which was more surprising . No Walrus ?Surprised
Magical Mystery Tour the song itself is admittedly just basically just a 3 chord riff, but personally I've always liked the simplicity of it.

Free To Rock - how rock and roll brought down the Berlin Wall (kind of)
Nice to see Mikhail Gorbachev extolling the appeal to youth of rock and roll, countless Russian acts who battled to stay in business during the Cold War, how acoustic music was OK but electric was not, the usual appearance of Billy Joel, and nods to Metallica and Scorpions, and best of all, no David bloody Hasslehoff.

that gig held at Tushino Airfield in 1991 is the stuff of legend they say nearly half a million people attended that day scrambling under fences and all

"I'm trying to free your mind, Neo. But I can only show you the door. You're the one that has to walk through it."

Dunno why it was a kind of Pink Floyd weekend, with BBC2 showing a Dave Gilmour concert, and Sky Arts repeating progs on Dark Side, WYWH and the Floyd at Pompeii show.

But hey, who's complaining? Tongue

BBC Alba seem to have footage from several of these sorts of things. I got my hopes up at seeing Red Hot Chili Peppers at the Tiree Music Festival.

But it turns out to have been - wait for it - Red Hot Chili PIPERS shocked

There was another one about how the music of the Beatles brought down communism, too. Just the Beatles, mind. This was pretty much all vox pops of Russians, from the bloke in St Petersburg with a shrine to John Lennon, or the guy who set up his own Cavern bar, to Putin's deputy PM who learnt his English from Beatles records.

Elton John - The Nation's Favourite Song
No mentions for Honky Cat, Big Dipper or Step Into Christmas. Huh! Wink

Fame TV (Sky 292) seem to show some new and old concerts during the night (although I would admit that given a choice between the babe channels and some old Alexander O'Neal or Barry White might not seem much of a choice, even on bad nights).
