It used to be UCCE, which stood for University Centres of Cricketing Excellence. For some reason they changed it to MCCU but its basically combined University teams from the area preceding MCCU.

RE: English County Cricket Season 2014
It was the case, until about 15 years ago, that the counties would start their season against either Oxford or Cambridge universities. These were the only two university sides that attained first-class status. They would only play from April until the end of June as their players were then participating in end of year/term academic examinations.

With Liverpool and Man City meeting today and the London Marathon the second round of County Championship matches could easily get overlooked. So hats off to the BBC who provide comprehensive coverage (including ball by ball of every single game this season via the web, a "top" match on BBC Five extra and many updates on local radio)
Middlesex v Nottinghamshire BBC London 94.9
Northants v Durham BBC R5 live sports extra and BBC Radio Northampton
Somerset v Yorkshire BBC Somerset
Warwickshire v Sussex BBC Cov & Warks
Essex v Derbyshire BBC Essex
Gloucestershire v Hampshire BBC Gloucestershire
Worcestershire v Kent BBC Hereford & Worcester

I agree. Also, all these commentaries are available on the BBC Sports online service. Smile

^ Yes although fining which BBC "Live event" it is on before the first ball is bowled can be a challenge at times.
