And Rooney should be used as a sub

No, this is actually what I think England should do, what is the point now you are out in playing with caution and playing players who have already failed, let the in experienced players show what they can do, just let them have fun and enjoy the game..

Gerrard is a perennial failure then. Let the premier league title slip under his studs and coughed up possession far too easily for the 1st suarez goal and ably assisted him with a deft flick on for the second. Time to retire Stevie G.

He will probably retire from england after this world cup anyway, he's just as much a failure as the rest of the England team... End of the day I do not know why any England fam expected to get out of a Group with Italy and Uruguay in it who are both better teams than you..

Uruguay are current South American Champions and Italy are far better and know how to win a game when needed..

Simple fact is that too many people over rate England and expect too much..

If he's playing well, then most definitely yes. Despite what the "critics" and the sensationalist media say, he's been by far England's best attacker with one goal and one assist, despite not playing in his best position.

Rooney should not be picked for England again, it,s time for someone else to be given a chance. Far too many times has he failed to deliver when he was needed.

Rooney should not be picked. It is time to use new fresh players for euro2016 qualifiers he has been to 3 world cups and 2 euros and have failed on all occasions. Sterling, Ox, Barkley, Lallana, James Ward Prowse, zaha (if he manages to get his head out of his ass soon) , Tom Carroll, Jordon Ibe (heard good things about this kid) and Ravel Morrison (hot headed) . Only worry is the defence and keeper I do not rate Hart.

Rooney will stay in the squad and will probably be made captain. I think Gerrard and Lampard will retire from international duty and England will be built around young players going into the Euro qualifying campaign. I'd be surprised if Cahill is made captain, so it really has to be Rooney.

He delivered yesterday when needed by scoring. 4th highest England goal scorer and yet thats all that people remember-he was a failure. I'm no fan of Rooney but he is being made a scapegoat for all of Englands failings when in fact it is the whole team that were at fault. Find someone better than Rooney who is English then by all means play him. That has to be someone who runs all day, tackles, assists and scores. Rooney in last seasons poor United team was the first ever player in the premiership to get into double figures with both assists and goals.

Hodgson did the right thing by taking a young side to brazil, now is the time to start afresh and get rid of the old guard completely. I am not making Rooney a scapegoat he like Gerrard have had their chance and its only fair the others are given the opportunity to show us what they can do.

He needs to show it on the big stage, it is like youngsters who score loads of goals in u18 and reserves but not reaching the heights in the first team. Its time to let Rooney go and find a new replacement. He will be 30 at euros and I cant see him keeping pace with the game

He's scored and assisted in two games, what more do you want? A hatrick against Uruguay because the defenders and midfielders were asleep? I can see Rooney playing well in his 30s because he doesn't need his pace to be effective, unlike the waste of spaces around him.
