RIP Elaine Stritch

Legendary Broadway performer Elaine Stritch dies aged 89.

Although she was American through and through she became well known in Britain in the mid-70s in the ITV sitcom "Two's Company".

Just as she was reaching the peak of her career her husband collapsed and died suddenly in 1982 aged just 53. Stritch, who freely admitted that she had "always liked a drink" suffered from problems with alcohol for many years after that.

However, she got her career back on track and continued having success until well into her 80s, becoming known to the younger generation as Colleen in "30 Rock".
