RIP Anne Kirkbride

Just been announced that Anne Kirkbride who played Deirdre Barlow in Corrie has died aged 60

May she R.I.P. 60 is too young

They tried to have an episode of 'This Is Your Life' about her but Anne ran away when the red book appeared.
Sad news.

this news shocked me - RIP Anne.

Maybe worth noting for posterity that she was the first person I saw described (albeit sarcastically) as "Sexy Specs". My use of the phrase ever since is always tempered by this

I can't say that I've ever been much of a fan of Coronation Street but everybody knew who Deirdre Barlow was. I remember when my Mum used to put her reading glasses on that she'd refer to them as her Deirdre specs.

It's a shame but not a surprise, Anne was a chain smoker which is how she developed her husky tone to her voice. When you smoke the amount she did then then it was always going to end badly. Consequently speaking it's now 3 days since I last smoked as I also do not wish to end up as another statistic.

RIP Anne.
