the Non dom status was bascially created so that people didnt pay tax twice on there earnings. was a good idea but was then corrupted

its like most of these things like working tax credits a great idea at first but they got corrupted along the way so companys can pay less for staff

They did said they are spending 750 million on the HMRC for more staff and systems to go after tax evaders hoping to get 5billion back

^I think the tax avoidance figures go far beyond 5 billion. Something like 10's of billions as far as I know.

Tax credits were created to help out the low paid and poorest people but like most things designed with the best of intentions the credit system has been exploited by greedy individuals and corporations.

Politically very clever budget, giving a little bit to the slightly better off to keep them quiet while he can comtinue to put the boot in to the most needy and vulnerable. Fact is even with the tax changes the loss of tax credits means those on minimum wage will be worse off. Interesting that the £9 living wage will not reach that level for 5 years, just in time for the next election - coincidence?
Anyone actually believing that a tory government will actively pursue the really big tax avoiders is sadly deluded, its the kind of thing that always get trotted out at every budget because it goes down well with the electorate, just like the old standby of 'cutting waste' in government departments, and nothing happens.

It is a politically loaded budget but the abuse of the tax credits system and welfare system means it had to be done in the likely absence of any reform negotiated from Brussels. The Living wage has totally done in Labour who at the moment are void of a philosophy ( i am a Labour voter by the way highly disillusioned with them) and an SNP who are void of any ideas.

HMRC are severely under resourced so the extra money is just to allow them to keep up.Its upwards of 8 weeks for them to turn around simple requests. It will be individuals and small businesses who bear the brunt of increased investigations etc.

Its is a traditionally Tory budget which is designed to reward their faithful for putting them in No 10 while setting themselves up for a second term. However in the current climate it will do what it says on the tin which is all we can ask for.

Theres only 1 way to stop that and that would be to say to amazon and the ilk you either pay your fair share on corporation tax or we make another band of VAT at 25% and that will be put on any transactions by them
