Laptop getting really slow

Depends on what you expect of them. A 3-4 year old laptop with struggle to run current software in some circumstances but should be perfectly capable of running programs it was running 3-4 years ago.
I've still got a 16 year old PC kicking around and fully functional (in fact the only component failure has been the optical drive and monitor in that timespan). Okay, so I don't have much use for it now but it still works as well as it did 16 years ago. Suppose I could use it for some retro DOS gaming

Each to there own. No such thing as a flawless one.
Personally I'm not a fan of any of the free AV scanners. Long standing preference to Kaspersky here (only the AV though not the security suite). Been a long time user since way before it got better known, suppose my second choice would be F-Prot.

As for the clean-up utils, please heed prior advice

DON'T, sorry to contradict, but I had this and it hogs system resources, worse then Norton.

It has this monitoring thing on it that you can't turn off. And it can be a swine to remove from the system.

That said, it is very good, if you don't mind being it's bitch.

I've had it for a couple of years & it's been great for me.
