In reality, we all know he couldn't care less about the negotiations (he's already said that he's not bothered preparing, as it's about attitude), everything he does is for show, and it's about how it makes him look, so if he can come out of it looking good even if nothing is achieved, he and his deluded base will see it as a win.

Trump really is an idiot on Trade. He refuses to include Services in his Trade discussions and due to the dominance of US financial services businesses that redresses any imbalance in many cases. Now Canada do impose high import tariffs on dairy but many countries seek to protect certain industries and the US protect Tobacco & Shelled Peanuts with import tariffs of 350% and 160% respectively. Sugar is also protected using strict import quotas. It’s been estimated that the protections on sugar imports alone cost the American consumer at least $1BN a year. Oh and what is the the biggest export market the US has? Oh that would be Canada who he’s picking a fight with very publically because Trudeau decided to stsnd up to him. It’s always the same with bullies - they can dish it out but don’t like it when they get challenged.
