Return of Megaupload?

I saw something the other day (don't know if others did?) suggesting Megaupload might be coming back, possibly in January, though maybe not in its previous form.
Assuming this is true, I wondered if the more technically minded might know if it would be possible to re-upload (or view again) the many vids that were lost when the site was taken down?
Probably a forlorn hope, but you never know ...

The gist seemed to be that old accounts would be 'restored', but I would have thought that those accounts, and the data contained therein, would have been 'destroyed' by the authorities (or would it have been retained pending possible further legal action?)?

There seems to be a lot of great looking material from 'the good old days' that was lost when they shut MU down - it would be fantastic to get access to it again (particularly in light of how rubbish that channels are these days), but I'm not holding my breath.

I hope his plans involve restoring megaporn too, I had time left on my premium account, plus a fuckload of content for the forum. lol.
I'm not sure it'll happen tbh, as it'll be an uphill struggle, but good luck to him.

Surely all the data would still be on the servers and be intact mind you do we all remember our login details lol

Some of the old Megaupload servers were wiped clean back in 2013, although others are still stored with all their data intact, and others though wiped have their data backed up on other servers. Megaupload used several hosting companies and each has handled things their own way.

I don't see how the old accounts could be restored in January, as Kim Dotcom claims, as he doesn't currently have access to what remains of the old Megaupload data. I can't see that anything's going to change in the next 6 months, so I think his plans are optimistic to put it mildly.

It was a truly tragic setback for us porn kings when he got busted. Priceless hoards of porn lost forever. Akin to a mass-extinction event in Earth history.
