Smartphone permissions question.
Recently got a smart phone, now I'm down wid da kids; so I'm looking for apps (I think that's modern for programme).

There is a problem though, on a lot of these 'apps' there is this permissions thing specifically :

""Device ID & call information
Allows the app to determine the phone number and device IDs, whether a call is active and the remote number connected by a call""

What is it, why is it more importantly is it safe; are they trying to rob me? bladewave

There are others that ask to access and alter folders on the SD card and calanderrs and alsorts.

In general what is safe to allow?

Smart phone; but not so smart an owner......? pmsl. Apps is short for 'applications', which is the modern word for specific programs.

RE: Smartphone permissions question.
Apps are basically small programs.

before you want to argue My degree is in Software design and been programming 25+ years Tongue Tongue Tongue

anyway back to his original question if you are getting your apps from either the apple app store or googleplay or another reputable app store should be safe. some programs / app will ask to use certain features ie the phone book or GPS or other features on the phone

Think I'd always take my sd card out if I was to up date. I see thats quite a common problem but the card can be rescued, if you can't reformet it directly.

Don't think this one I have can update past 5.1. Cubot H1, great phone, does everything a much more expensive one can do.

It can even charge other phones the battery is that big

Worth trying to find one as aback up.
