Why do some channels go topless at 9:30 and others at 10?

Often wondered, but haven't really been arsed to find out

something to do with ofcom but i thought it was tits out at 10 obviously i was wrong

It's weird, Hotel Voyeur, Babeworld, Sportxxxbabes and a couple of the grandma channels it's 9:30, all the others it's 10.

I've wondered the same thing in the past. I beleieve the official 'tits-out' time is 9.30 but some channels do wait until 10pm. Maybe they're just playing it safe and demonstrating goodwill. I guess you could compare other aspects that differ such as the boundaries the channels are prepared (or not) to push.

I may be wrong, but I think years ago on the sportxxx freeview, before encryption - they used to get topless at eight.

The watershed time in the broadcasting code is 9:00, but Ofcom have been known to comment adversely on overtly sexual material broadcast very close to the watershed time. Accordingly, it's better for the channels to wait until a little later, rather than switching from pre-watershed to post-watershed material bang on 9:00.

Think it is safer for channels to wait to 10pm to avoid criticism from Ofcom after a mother complained about her son and his mates watching an over 18 where the chat was overtly sexual about 15 mins after the official 9pm watershed and before the unofficial topless watershed.

OfCom want it both ways. There are rules, and the slightest transgression can land a broadcaster with a hefty fine, as Playboy found out when it was fined for a show 2 years ago on a channel that has dissapeared. Also Portland/Redhot fined £52,500, half of that just for flashing up a website address in the period between losing a previous case and actually getting round to changing their trailers.

On the other hand, OfCom wants flexibility - there must be a gentle transition into adult material after 9pm. Except for the C4 Dispatches programme about lapdanding clubs, which had sexual content 4 seconds after the watershed. That's OK becuase it suits OfCom's own biassed agenda. Or horror films, which OfCom don't consider a problem for the simple reason they didn't ask the question.

Rumour has it that OfCom has issued unofficial advice in the past, but if that is the case they undermine any concept of published "rules", or "laws" as they are known in this country. Either way, some babe channels play safer than others because OfCom can't be trusted.

For some reason I've been under the impression that before 10pm the show has to be toned down a bit, and in particular that topless wasn't allowed. I'm watching the web stream at the moment and Amanda's topless and seems to be doing her normal full-throttle show.

Have I had the wrong idea all this time?
