Debutant Foakes finishes the first day on 87 not out, having come into bat at 103/5 and helping England to reach a healthy 321/8 at the close.

Yes a good recovery from England.
A more balanced approach from lunch onwards has got England into the match. Nice to see

Foakes did make 107, but he was out. Anderson was the not out batsman.

England closed the second day on 38/0 which is a lead of 177.

Honest mistake .
Foakes batted exceptionally well yesterday before completing his century today and then kept wicket with calm assurance. Took an excellent stumping off the bowling of Adil Rashid to dismiss Chandimal and took a couple of catches to boot.
The three spinners worked well together and then the opening pair saw out the remaining overs well.
It is a very good match position for England.

England have declared on 322/6 with Jennings unbeaten on 146. Sri Lanka will have a few overs to bat at the end of the 3rd day.

England have bowled Sri Lanka out for 250 to win by 211 runs. A very sizeable victory after having been 103/5 on the first morning.

England named an unchanged side for the 2nd test. I had thought Johnny Bairstow might be brought back in place of Sam Curran, as Curran only bowled 11 overs in the last match. Keeping Curran looks to have been a good decision though, as he's reached his half century after coming in at 165/6.

England are 285 all out after a stand of 60 for the last wicket. Curran finished as top scorer with 64 and Buttler made 63.
