Broadcast License From Another EU State?
Why don’t broadcasters of FTA channels obtain a license from another, less censorial EU member state (which means pretty much all of them), and broadcast FTA channels at 28 degrees East. They would then free themselves from ‘Ofcon’ censorship, and show what most of us, I assume, would like to see. Big Grin

As they are FTA, they don’t need to worry about being part of $ky’s encryption, and no additional equipment would be required on the part of the viewer (unless $ky boxes can’t be tuned to receive non $ky broadcasts?).

The Westminster government couldn’t stop it (though they would certainly have a go), due to the TWF, and issuing a proscription order, which didn’t really work for encrypted channels, would, presumably, have no effect?

Are there any technical or legal reasons why they don’t do this, or is it the usual situation with the adult entertainment industry in the UK; as long as they are making sufficient profit from tame softcore (or still often censored hardcore, in the case of R18), they just wouldn’t bother?

as much as we would love to see more, i don't see why the channels would want to show more. i mean we still watch when it's 'just' tits n thong covered ass and they still get the calls. who here would be more inclined to ring at £1.50 a min cos of a bit off pussy?

there is also the fact the girls would want to be paid more to show more and how many current girls would be willing to show their lady bits? a lot of the girls consider themselves 'glamour models' and not pornstars

The satellites at 28 east (Astra and Eurobird) are there to broadcast to the UK, therefore all services that use them need an Ofcom licence.

Also, even if this was not the case, if the channel was not on the Sky EPG it would probably not be commercially viable as the vast majority of viewers would not know how to receive it. The Sky box allows the reception of non EPG channels in the 'other channels' section but you can't record them to Sky+.

Their rival, Freesat, has stated that they won't allow adult services on their EPG, so unfortunately Freesat wouldn't be an option either.

Legally and technically there is no reason to stop that. But this is the real world. Either Sky has exclusive rights to the satellites at 28 degrees (from 2 providers), or they have enough commericial clout to block any channels they don't like the look of.

And that's the least of it. Any non-EU channel is subject to regulations for the EU country that uplinks it. If they ignore EU rules Eutelsat or Astra get fined. So it's EU rules all round.

And for about the past year, the free EU channels have really toned down, becuase of a European Court ruling saying broadcasters have to protect children. Yes, it's possible to find exceptions but they are rare and mostly pre-recorded tape loops and no-one comlains. Put free Euro porn on "our" satellites and complaints will flood in from the blue meanies.

I have a dish with a monobloc LNB which allows me to receive all of the free-to-view channels broadcast from Astra 19.2 and Hotbird 13.Give or take a few rare occasions the Europeans are as tightly regulated as we are. There are only a couple of live 'adult' free channels on all of these frequencies and the first is Eurotic TV which used to show nudity 24 hours a day,no legs apart, insertion etc.But even they now have a watershed period which means no nudity during the day.The other is Sexysat which has two unreliable channels and still has knickers off stuff at night, brief and usually covered up by a hand, and topless during the day but at a fraction of the quality that we have over here.18 months to 2 years ago,all of the European broadcasters seemed to stop explicit free content. There must have been an EU directive of some kind.As far as Europe is concerned we have the most 'adult' channels with the most free content available at present.
