RE: Has VAR ruined football?
i'm now offering my own opinions..

First VAR is here to stay there is no denying that, but VAR needs to implemented in such a way so that checks are made without taking up too much game time. The implementation has not perhaps been an easy one for many, but if used and utilised PROPERLY by all concerned, then it CAN become a great tool. That's why I believe there should be a set number of challenges for each team for each half say 3 or 4 and they can only be used by the coach ONLY, and what that should bring about is an end to seeing players from BOTH sides surrounding the referee demanding a decision, and where there is no big screen available, why not the, allow fans to see the replay on their mobiles?

To those that say it ruins the game, I would simply produce Exhibit A:

Man C Vs Tottenham Champions League at the Etihad last season. A truly incredible game in which VAR was used in some key moments, and no one could argue it adversely affected the match.

As others have alluded, there is a problem with over-zealous application of the offside rule and the associated pedantry being reinforced by VAR reviews. Offside rule is there to prevent goal hanging, not 5mm of shoulder in front of the defensive line.

Ultimately VAR will be good for the game as it will provide more consistent and correct decisions. The two main downsides for me at the minute are the amount of time it takes and it kind of takes away that initial celebration once a player has scored but in the end it will take time to iron out a few creases, so its just a question of whether the fans have enough patience and embrace it

Not only will VAR effect the Football Matches but it will effect the points we feel we should have got on the Prediction Thread anyone thought of that that is very interesting.

^^ We all knew that VAR was going to be used before the season started, therefore we knew it was going to be a factor during the prediction competition.

The final scores are obviously going to be affected by VAR but I would say it's something else to take in to account when making your prediction lists. For me it makes an even better competition because there's more strategy coming into play when making your lists. More thought process and attempting to outwit our opponents.

We'll just all have to be extra careful when deciding on the final scores because it's an extra x-factor to consider with possible disallowed goals and penalties. Smile

RE: Has VAR ruined football?
I agree that the "mistakes are all part of the game" line is overplayed.

VAR is essentially used to ensure that game-changing decisions like goals, penalties and red cards are right and that has to be a good thing. Sure, mistakes will be made but nowhere near as many as all-too-human referees were making.

But I do like the notion of only managers getting, say, 2 decision challenges per game, excluding the automatic use of VAR on whether the ball crossed the line. It adds a dimension to the coaching which I think would make the game more entertaining -- whether you're at home or in the stands.

Right now, the only real influence that a manager can have on a game is the substitutions and subtle mid-game tactical changes that 90% of fans don't notice anyway.

A manager-instigated VAR rule would bring the managers into the game a bit more.

And make thrm think more carefully when challenging VAR I would say 3 challenges is enough for one game

"Any goal scored or created with the use of the hand or arm will be disallowed this season, even if it is accidental,"

the city one disallowed showed it just glanced the city striker didnt have any effect on the flight of the ball yet was disallowed funny thing if it had glanced of the defender instead then the goal would have stood
