Much the same thing happened last night with Valentina. To be fair though, she had given several updates on where the tip goal was, starting 5 minutes in when she said it was halfway there. On her last update she checked the time with the producer was disappointed to have to relay that there was only 30 seconds left. She was still talking right to the end and got cut off in mid-flow.

If I ran a business where I told punters that they might receive a bag of sweets if they gave me a certain amount of money, but they couldn’t see the sweets beforehand, might receive just a single sweet, or I might shut up shop once they’ve paid without giving them the sweets, then I’m fairly sure the law would be into me.

I'm fairly sure you're wrong. By using the word 'might' you've already admitted there would be no obligation on you to do anything, just as there would be no obligation on the part of punters to give you any money. No obligation means no contract. No contract means no legal issue.

What you should understand about tips is that they are discretionary. You don't have to give a street busker tips but you can if you want to. You don't have to give a webcam girl tips but you can if you want to. If you aren't obliged to tip she isn't obliged to do anything in return.

^ Doesn't it also constitute a gamble of some sort on behalf of the punter? Pretty sure there are regulations around running such 'games of chance' in an offline environment. Anyone know the specifics?

Government have pledged to make what is illegal offline the same online. Be interesting to see how far they regulate such things.

(Babes that run raffles from their OF are similarly on thin ice IMO. Such things are supposed to have oversight.)

The obliged thing runs to this too... I'd agree with tony where the babe hasn't specified what they were going to do for the amount in advance via the osg. In my eyes, the osg creates an obligation IF the amount is hit. With a requirement to be fairly timely about fulfilling the goal as well.

The idea that the babeshows "are not that deep" is driven by those that don't wish to acknowledge how much effective customer service and a consideration of psychology impacts users' future interactions.

Difference being, you don’t tip a busker in advance.
“Roll up! I am about to perform the most staggering version of Purple Rain you have ever heard in your life!”
“Brilliant, mate! Here’s a fiver!”
[Busker proceeds to take out a paper and comb and buzz like a dying bluebottle]

Where have all the good times gone?

No it doesn't meet the legal definition of gambling because it's possible to experience the tip goal being performed without having contributed anything. To be gambling the participants must be required to contribute. That's why the bingo games that used to played in newspapers weren't classed as gambling, as you could play the game and potentially win a prize without actually buying the newspaper. No purchase necessary, as the adverts for these games always said, and therefore no gambling.

One thing I've noticed is that the number of tip goals being met on this channel has increased in recent weeks. Maybe because the amount of the tip goals has been lowered by some of the girls or maybe because the punters are more aware of the time constraint and so are more inclined to get it done in time.

It's not a legal difference. In law a tip paid in advance is still a tip.

Hmm are you saying this applies behind paywalls too? To be clear, there an individual's payment would be required for access to a 'game' but as long as payment is not specific to taking part and the winning of the prize it's okay? That's a bit of a hair split isn't it?! Particular as such games might well be advertised as a benefit of said access. (I'm thinking of OF subscriber access as well as babeshow paywalls.)

These days Beth's tip goals are usually done in 5 minutes.

Some casinos have an admission fee. Access to the casino will allow someone to take part in gambling, but the admission fee itself isn't gambling. Admission fees, participation fees, competition entry fees - none of these are classed as gambling and a payment to access a paywall wouldn't be either.

Paying to take part in gambling isn't gambling. A payment's only gambling when it acts as a stake, i.e. gives you a chance of winning something.
