RE: Sports Commentators
David Lloyd is good and like classic radio cricket commentators, off is head and very funny.
When i was a kid Peter Jones was a great football radio commentator and is sadly missed.
It was a bit before my time but i have seen the tv clips,David Coleman was a great football commentator and no one can say 1-0 or 2-0 any better.Check out the 1974 Fa cup final.

RE: Sports Commentators
Peter Jones was the best. I well remember the days when football on telly meant Match of the Day and, for us in the North West, Kick Off with Gerald Sinstadt. We had to rely on the radio for European matches and internationals and Peter Jones's voice always takes me back 30 years when his commentaries are replayed. The current crop could learn a hell of a lot from him.

For football, the BBC's Guy Mowbray and Mark Lawrenson always have good banter, their commentary during the England shambles was funny, helped to add some light relief to the horror show.

The golf coverage wouldn't be the same without Peter Alliss.

John Rawlins did great boxing commentary on the radio.

Stuart Storey is superb on the Athletics and I fail to understand why he was dumped by the BBC. Very knowledgeable guy. Willie Thorne is educative and informative on snooker. Mark Petchey is excellent on the tennis.

Jonathon Legard makes it difficult to watch Formula 1 with the sound up, talks absolute shit, but then you've got Martin Brundle alongside him with a former drivers perspective who's pretty good.

RE: Sports Commentators
I hate Martin Tyler with a passion..
Its largely to do with the high pitch shreik he gives when one of the TOP4 teams big players strikes on goal...He wont do it if for example Kevin Davies of Bolton hits a 30 yarder into the roof of the net (unlikely i know Tongue) but if Rooney or Gerrard hits it into row z he acts like it was an inch away...pisses me off big time.

My favourite football commentator ever was Stuart Hall. (radio5) Now he could make a tap in sound like Goal of the season and his use of the English Language during his commentary is second to none..

I also liked Brian Moore....after all he was comentating with Brian Clough on that famous night in Rotterdam 26/5/1982 Big Grin

Have to disagree there, in my opinion Mark Lawrenson talks absolute nonsense.

During the World Cup I had to switch the commentary to Radio 5 cause I dislike him that much. He often had to be corrected by Guy Mowbray - not sure why the BBC like him so much to be honest!
