RE: The Ashes 2009
I agree up to a point 654321, he's a great instinctive batsman. However, when he decides to pre-meditate shots like today's he has to give himself the option of leaving the ball. A top class bowler will see him moving early and vary the line of delivery - the ball was way too wide for the shot he tried and much as he dug us out of a hole, he could have put us back in trouble.

I don't know where you magic pixies came from, but I like your pixie drink!

Close of play, day 1. England finish on 336/7. Honours pretty much even at the moment.

England on top for me, runs on the board is always a gr8 position to be in. If we can eek out 50 runs. Then have a go at that susceptable batting line up

You've got a point. I think we've got a really strong bowling unit and with the pitch doing a bit, we've got a good chance of knocking the aussies over cheaply tomorrow.

I dont think their batting line up is suspect. Johnson can certainly bat not sure about the rest of the tail. But I think this australian team batting line up is good there is out there. It is the bowling which you could say is suspect. You dont replace legends such as Warne and Mcgrath easily. in the batting Hughes by all accounts is the next big thing and even though haddin is no gilchrist he is no mug with the bat.
I would say who ever wins the morning session tomorow will be the favourite to take the match. Therefore at the moment I would say honours even.

Hughes will get bounced out, his technique will only last so long. Ponting is nowhere near the player he was, same as hussey. Clarkes solid, north is unknown, haddin's not a big innings guy. Johnsons gd but not a specialist batter. Hauritz can bat a bit, the otther two aren't so flash with the bat. But haydos, langer n simmo have left that batting line up to. I feel they got a gd bowling line up, arguably better than ours since they went to SA n won.

Anything over 300 runs on the 1st day is decent and Australia's batting line up is fairly long however England have the better bowlers but the only thing is the weather that could interrupted this test.

the decision to award an ashes test to Cardiff was due to the fact that Glamorgan were backed by a grant from the welsh assembly which guaranteed the ECB £3.2m for the match, more than twice the amount any other ground could afford to bid. in future the board have decided that the process wiil give greater weight to cricketing and geographical factors. In short the ecb are greedy money grabbing souless mercenaries who are more interested in lining up their own pockets then what is beneficial to the public and the sport, but have made a flexible/ breakable promise that they try not to be next time. I am as disgusted by it as much as you are perana.
