RE: Tory plans for Ofcom
Okay guys, I'm equality minister now. One of the things I want to do is to stop Page 3, a decent moneymaker for women (I'd guess). That'll help women!

Also found something pretty funny, from The Times:

"She was called a ‘dizzy airhead’ two years ago after she dialled 999 to get the emergency services to fix her boiler after it started sparking."

You'd think a politician would be a bit smarter...

Gotta love it, the impression I've gotten after reading a few articles about her is that this job is basically all wrong for her, as she seemingly hates men, that's good for someone who wants equality. An article also mentions she was divorced in '96... can make your own minds up about that one!

Quick Edit: I have to add that I know pretty much nothing about politics!

Banning page 3, that'll never ever happen, if you don't like it then don't look, its completely harmless just like the babe channels, let and let live, anybody with facist views can go and get fucked.

Think it's quite sad that there are people like Featherstone and indeed Harriet Harman with those kind of views in this day and age.

It's also pretty insulting to the girls in the industry. The babe channels have a number of girls who are university educated for example.

Does Lynne Featherstone think that the likes of Donna Duke, Morgan, Charlie O'Neal etc. haven't got the intelligence to decide for themselves what they want to do for a living?

Yes im sure it hasnt entered featherston and harmans tiny minds that the girls actually want to do page 3. Firstly because they can make alot of money out of it and secondly if they dont just do it for the money, alot of them actually enjoy doing the modelling.

Things may have just got a bit darker.

She's been appointed junior minister for equalities and personal opinions do not make policy. As a lib dem her position on policy making is quite weak the real power sits with Theresa May, the Home Secretary and Minister for Women and Equality (although i bet you wished it was Teresa May the porn actress).

If you look at the current cabinet make up out of 29 posts only 4 are occupied by women so that says a lot for David Cameron and equality.

The minister who has Ofcom under their wing is Jeremy Hunt, Secretary of State for Culture, Olympics, Media and Sport. He has been given one week from yesterday to cut the budget of Ofcom (current £142.5 million 2010/11) so as to allow the Chancellor George Osborne to announce next week cuts of 6 billion pounds in overall government spending prior to the mini budget on June 22nd.

Now whilst it was stated during the election that policy making was to be taken off Ofcom and returned to the minister this in my opinion would not be seen as a real cut in it's budget.

We need to see real cuts in levels of bureaucracy, reduce the number of executive boards, allow the media/stations to self regulate themselves and Ofcom not to over regulate on the basis of one complaint. At the end of the day Ofcom do not finacially benefit from any fines they levy at channels.

New and existing channels need support and stimuli from the regulator to attract more finance and allow the sector to grow and central government has a job to also support such small/medium enterprises.

If the girls are happy enough to get there tits out and get very well paid for it then whats the problem. It really piss's me off that the human body of a beautiful model is in someway offensive, its a work of art in my view and more to the point it keeps a lot of people happy and it does really cheer up your day when you look at page 3 or a babe channel. Tell me whats more relaxing and offending, watching mad terrorists trying to blow up the world, blowing up cars, buildings etc or a happy smiling naked model on your screen after a long hard stressfull day at work, I personally don't really want to watch the violence and evil of this world at the end of a long 12 hour shift, but neither do I complain about it neither. Great Britain needs to grow up and respect what one may choose to view is there business and if there is a demand for it then whats the point these femist, facist arseheads are trying to make because I'm getting sick and tired of these moranic do goods trying to bring down the very fabric of this democracy and that includes ofcom.

RE: Tory plans for Ofcom
It has been reported many times that the Conservatives have traditionally been ideologically wedded to the concept of an individual’s personal responsibility for their actions rather than to government attempting to control individual actions through reams of rules and regulations, and no doubt socially-liberal Liberal Democrats would also want to see a curb on the Nanny State. Whether such a change in emphasis will now have the desired effect of allowing the babe channels to push the boundaries a little more and also allow R18 material on encrpted channels in the long term, remains to be seen.

Repressed society is something that you associate with the middle east not Great Britain, lets remember that all tastes should be catered for within reason and commonsense government is what this country needs. Lets focus on the things that actually matter to us such as employment and fixing the economy and its worth remembering that these channels make a lot of people happy and could also be proven medicially in helping depression. If these channels disappeared tommorow I think the suicide rate would increase. Watching porn is good for you, it also decreases stress levels. How can ofcom justify picking on a sexline channel, pick on the news channels instead for getting this country into a state of paranoia about terrorist attacks that might never happen and increasing stress levels.
