If Labour are re-elected it's goodbye to the freedoms lost as written above and probably more in the pipeline, more rules based on ignorance and enforced with lies and subterfuge by the Police as part of the Police State that Brown is building brick by brick.

Whilst Labour did force it through, it was done with Tory support. The fact that such a wide reaching bill, which potentially has huge implications for a vast number of the population, was rushed through without proper debate is nothing short of a total disgrace.

The fact that this occurred with the help of the Tories doesn't give much hope that things will change too much whoever is voted in.

And that sadly is why a different government will not make any real difference to censorship, any threat of review for regulatory bodies like Ofcom will just result in them getting even more tough with broadcasters in an attempt to justify themselves. Let's hope that Europe makes itself useful for once and forces changes to censorship laws here.

I cannot see Labour remaining in power, despite the reported ups and downs of Tory support, in my view Labour have just made it impossible to vote for them.

The only reason things are as close as they are is due to distrust of the Tories rather than any positive thinking towards Labour.

It's not altogether surprising. When Labour adopted more middle England friendly policies in order to have any chance of being elected in the first place, it meant that the 2 parties in this country with any chance of being elected at all became virtual carbon copies of one another.

Cameron's wistful yearning for a more family friendly society, whilst at the same time looking to positively discriminate against people that would prefer to remain unmarried, fills me with dread.

It just seems to demonstrate a total inability to recognise that the world and people's ideas have completely changed.

And I can only see that refusal to accept the changing world we now live in as being the catalyst for even more censorship across the board in the near future.

Does anyone know any good forums that get noticed by politicians? Party or independent ones. Right now any issue that gets lots of people contributing will be taken notice of.

Well commented MARCCE. The Conservatives supported the measure, so it can't logically be attributed only to Labour.

Don't assume that because MPs voted for it that means they support every part. The "washup" process before the Election means MPs have a last chance to rush through laws before having to start the whole process again years later. Often they have to choose between passing a bad law with some good bits or loosing the good bits totally.

The Digital Economy Bill also included subsidised broadband for grockles in the remote areas.

Why not contact your candidates - of both parties - and let them know you think cutting off internet access is misguided and will be wrongly applied. Ask them if when and how they will change the Act.

RE: Tory plans for Ofcom
The problem with passing legislation that censors is that it deals with a minority problem and disadvantages the majority. It is democracy in reverse. Nearly all the draconian legislation passed recently is forced onto the agenda by the minority puritancal without any real evidence that a problem exists and the politicians run with it because it makes them look "holier than thou", again turning democracy on it's head. The Authorites see everyone as a potential paedophile, child abuser, abuser of fallen women and cyber criminals. What a shocking indictment of the good people of this land. AND we just sit back and let them walk all over us, today unlike the past when working people rose up against the bosses and more recently protest against nuclear arms and the poll tax, it seems we have lost the fire in our belly and just weakly roll over, a real shame there seems no passion to fight for our freedoms anymore, Society today is in two camps; the untouchable feral underclass and the law abiding so called "middle classes" who are brow beaten by the Excutive to pay tax, speeding fines, parking fines, fees for this and fees for that, cowering to the ever increasing draconain power of the State, so much for an equal Society!

But would having no governing body(Ofcom),simply allow the channels to do what they like, charge what they like, and would we get a better service at a better value?????
Even though the tories say they'll abolish Ofcom, would that leave us the viewers, with a better deal??????Blush

RE: Tory plans for Ofcom
Cameron was talking yesterday about treating kids like kids and adults like adults, I wonder how far reaching that'll be.

If the Tories do get in and review Ofcom, hopefully the BBFC will get a slap as well. Not that i'm yet convinced another Tory government would be the best outcome.
