RE: Tamest night ever??
Maybe its something to do with the over-officious people at offcom (or should it be offtwat?). An extract from their Participation TV consultation document (see: http://www.ofcom.org.uk/consult/condocs/...hheld7.pdf ) says that "despite this, “babe” channels have been subject to a high and disproportionate level of scrutiny, with channels assigned their own compliance officers and, in some cases, having to discuss and agree content in advance of transmission" - so its no wonder theres been a taming down now most channels are on wider distribution through freeview!

RE: Tamest night ever??
The quote is from a response to Ofcom's Participation TV Part 2 consultation which closed in July 2008. There was a risk that all the Babe channels would have to go encrypted or close down because they use premium rate phone numbers to generate £££ and Ofcom say that's advertising. Ofcom could not cope with 50 responses, and more that a year later have STILL not decided what new rules to apply.

Here's what Ofcom say:
Quote:Ofcom’s consultation on Participation TV Part 2: keeping advertising separate from editorial closed on 3 July 2008. The consultation proposed amendments to the Ofcom Broadcasting Code to ensure that programmes based on audience participation are not effectively advertisements for premium rate services.

We were intending to publish a statement in summer 2008. However, we received over 50 responses from stakeholders representing a diverse range of views, which require further consideration. Ofcom anticipates making a more detailed announcement before the end of the year. As usual, should Ofcom decide to make any regulatory changes, licensees will be given reasonable notice before such changes are implemented.

Babelfish Translation...

"Oh SHIT!!! loads of people said they want porn on the tele. We gonna have to get back to you when we've figured out how to spin this so it looks like you DON'T want porn on the tele. We may be gone some time...especially if we CAN'T figure out how to make it look like you don't want porn on the tele..."

Cool

Babelfish Translation...

"In the event that ofcom CANNOT figure of way of manipulating the responses in such a way that they can conclude that we don't want porn on the tele, they'll e-mail every single religious and moral extremist group in the country, as well as informing their friends at the daily mail (ptoo!) well before they announce any proposed changes so that they can initiate a campaign to discredit dirty porno... *cough* 'Adult Entertainment' before the announcement is made in an effort to make us all feel ashamed about our desires and cripple any attempted pro-Adult entertainment campaign before it even gets started."
