Goldberg : The Ultimate Collection(blu ray)

I bought it from a local marker for £8.

A two disc set that showcases Goldbergs matches from his televised debut in WCW to his final WWE match at WM20 in 2004.(this was released before the recent comeback)

The matches from WCW range from explosive squash matches to his excellent encounters with DDP and Scott Steiner.A major niggle for me is that this being a WWE blu ray, they've overdubbed his original WCW entrance music with his crappy WWE theme. Also all of MC Michael Buffer's audio is edited out. This doesn't fool anyone

The WWE selection of matches are mostly lame with the exceptions of a good match with Christian and decent effort with Shawn Michaels, both from 2003.

The extras are a few select matches against Sting,Bam Bam.Bigelow, Bret.Hart,Shawn Michaels and a crap battle royal from WCW in '98.

I recommend this for the WCW content only.

Picked up WWE ECW One Night Stand 2006 from a local market for a bargain at £4.

Highlights for me are :

John Cena vs RVD
Masato Tanaka vs Balls Mahoney
Mick Foley & Edge vs Terry Funk & Tommy Dreamer.this is a good 2 disc set that also uncludes the original ECW ppv from 1997.

I highly recommend Ladies and Gentleman My Name is Paul Heyman.

I bought it from a local market for £6.

A superb blu ray documentary that chronicles Paul Heyman's journey from rouge WWF ringside phothe industty.tographer, his days in Championship Wrestling From Florida,Memphis,AWA,WCW,ECW to both his stints in WWF/WWE.

Despite missing a few major faces like Steve Austin, all involved are given a certain anount of freedom to talk about all the amazing things Heyman has done in the industry.

The story of how Jerry Lawler hated him in the Memphis territory and broke his jaw in a six man tag is pricelessBig Grin

Also of note is when Stephanie MacMahon Levesque reveals he was fired for his lack of diplomacy, which really means he didn't say yes fast enough to Vince,Triple H or herself quick enough.

Although a few things are glossed over, this is one of the very best and most interesting bios WWE have released.

Extras :

The Midnight Express vs The New Midnight Express(June 1989)

Brock Lesnar & Paul Hetman vs The Hardy Boyz(WWE Judgement Day 02)

Curtis Axel & Paul Heyman vs CM Punk(20/09/13)

Other extras of worth are some funny stories from Joey Styles and an emotional Stephanie MacMahon Levesque reading a letter of condolence that Heyman sent to her following the passing of Mae Young.

I was stupid enough to be knocking about at a local market this morning despite the pissing rain.Came across a few bargains though.

Picked up Nature Boy : The Definitive Ric Flair Collection(2008)for £4.Smile

As usual,WWE glosses over the more controversial parts of his career and Flair's incredibly stupid exaggerations really damage the credibility of the bio.It was done better previously by WWE back in 2003 with The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection. However this is worth it at such a cheap price if you don't have that release or access to the network.

Extras :

6 great matches from the 80s including the legendary 45 minute draw with Sting at the first Clash of the Champions.

Amongst the matches there is a nice tribute video also.

For the same price I also bought the Ultimate Warrior : The Ultimate Collection(2014)on Blu ray.(3 discs)

The interview doesn't really have any big reveals or acknowledgments of him always standing up to MacMahon or defeating him in court but that would be too much to expect anyway. With 31 matches(5 blu ray only)there's plenty to go at from his UWF,WCCW and WWF days. However the really good matches are only when he's faced with Ted Dibiase,Rick Rude and Randy Savage. The squash matches are intense and exciting at times.Far superior to that Self Destruction hatchet job released a few years earlier.

Having no interest in the current product,I normally look around for historic content at cheap prices.Picked up The Most Powerful Families In Wrestling(2007)from a local market for only £2.

The documentary itself is hindered by the usual piss poor contributions from long time MacMahon kiss ass Steve "Brooklyn Brawler" Lombardi and also there are many lazy continuity errors and facts emmitted.Ground breaking this isn't but the footage used is good, however the extras are where this release shines.

Extras :

16 complete matches from a number of important promotions in the USA from 1975 to 2005.
Stand outs include :
Gerry and Jack Brisco vs Rick Steamboat and Jay Youngblood(Starrcade '83)
Curt Hennig vs Greg Gagne(AWA 1988)
Terry Funk and Dory Funk vs The Public Enemy(ECW 1994)

Overall
Documentary : 2/5 Extras : 4/5

Jake "The Snake" Roberts : Pick Your Poison

Snapped this up from a local market for only £5 but its well worth it even if you have to pay £20.
The strength lies in the wonderful documentary which features a sit down interview with Roberts himself,he immediately goes into his truly horrific childhood and discusses his weird upbringing as well as suffering abuse at the hands of his father, the other major strength is that WWE chooses not to gloss over the darker side of the business and the dangers that workers faced when working such a hectic schedule back in the 80s.Drugs,alcohol and steroids are all covered as well as infidelity.
The more positive stuff comes from the contributions of his peers, such as Ted DiBiase who praises Roberts' as the master of ring psychology in Mid South and Georgia long before he wowed audiences in the WWF.
Overall its outstanding and a must for fans of the days when MacMahon insisted on genuine characters being created and none of this prefab nonsense we are left with in the current product.

Some great extras over the 2 disc set with some strong matches,my picks of the bunch being :

Vs Ricky Steamboat WWF The Big Event(28/08/86)

Vs Rick Rude WWF MSG(24/10/88)

Vs Sting WCW Halloween Havoc(25/10/92)
