There is a bit of an urban legend about a group in the 80s (I think it was The Thompson Twins) who while on-stage in concert the backdrop collapsed to reveal a bunch of session musicians playing the songs

In a time of universal deceit telling the truth is a revoultionary act - George Orwell

For studio recordings I'd say that probably ALL musicians/singers use autotune in some way, have done for years. There's nothing wrong with that so long as it's not done to hide the fact that they can't sing.

As for live performances, it tends to be the 'pop' acts, ie. not actual 'musicians', with younger audiences that use it rather shamelessly. Cheryl Cole is a very good example of someone who simply has no talent for singing yet has made millions from being autotuned and miming other people's songs; we have heard people defending her recent miming because 'it's too difficult to dance and sing at the same time'. Please, she's supposed to be a singer; talk about style over substance and looks over talent.

Nothing to do with the Mic,with the exception of Alfie Boe,Renee Fleming and Shirley Bassey, the whole thing was dire.

(as pop stars go though i thought Kyle showed the others how it is done)

One of the misconceptions of todays music is it just ain't as good as it used to be and yes sometimes when you listen to the chart show or most of the shit being aired it does at times really make you despair, it's would seem right now that we are living in a Simon Cowell, talent show era and nothing but manuafactured dross rolling like a conveyor belt with so much autotune going on it leaves you just very bitter.

I am here to say our generation is no different to previous ones and that we do indeed have a very prosperous one, here is some examples of todays gems, they write their own songs and do not use autotune, whether you like or despise their music is beside the point, they are all worthy in my book to be referred to as what I'd call true muscians.

First up here is Jessie J - Performing live, no autotune whatsoever.

Here is a another example amoungst many others. Tom Chaplin of Keane performing with Queen in 2010, autotune, no chance.
