Advertising....the world has gone mad!!!
It's crazy that all of a sudden companies have taken it upon themselves to pronounce themselves differently.
Skoda becomes sh-koda.
Hyundai becomes Hee-un- day.
Ikea becomes Ee-kee-a.
Fashion has so much to answer for.

All sounds like sh-bollocks to me....Surprised

It's not fashion me old fruit, it's how the names are pronounced in their native languages Wink

What about Nutella, Lidl, Porche and Volkswagen, not to mention Adidas, which I remember having an anglicised pronunciation for years.

If we were told how they should be pronounced in the first few months of their creation (Which we probably were, and never really bothered to attempt to pronounce them correctly) we probably only have ourselves to blame.

TBH Clit, I quite agree why tell us now how they should be said when they could have told us back then.

Lidl is an odd one because they used to tell us it was LEE-dl. Now they advertise offers in "the middle of Lidl" which is encouraging the 'English' pronunciation.

You're free to pronounce them any way you want to. The companies in question have simply chosen to use their names as they are pronounced "at home".

I can say without fear of contradiction that Czechs in particular don't give a toss how we pronounce Skoda, they're just happy that their cars sell quite well hereWink
