Reception probs?
I finally got around to swapping my single feed LNB for a multi one today and put in the extra cable to my Sky+ box. Everything seemed fine, but about half hour afterwards 960 and 955 started breaking up something cronic. I strongly suspect it's something to do with the DIY upgrade, but just thought I'd eliminate all other avenues before I doing anything drastic.

So what I'd like to know is if anyone else was having signal break-up on 906 and 955 sometime around 2:00 ?

Thanks.

Not sure what it was like at 14.00 Stan, but 960 and 955 are working fine at the moment.

Thanks, duke. I'm not at home now, so can't check.

I'm just clutching at straws really, as I'm pretty sure it's something to do with my DIY upgrade - although I can't think what, it was a pretty simple affair. All I did was change the LNB and run the extra cable.

It might be that the new LNB is slightly out of position, so some Eurobird channels such as the babe channels may break up. Have you checked the signal strength and quality in the services settings?

Also, you could try feeding the Sky box with one cable at a time and see if the break up happens just on one cable, and also check that the signal strength and quality is the same from each cable.

If there's a variation, or if the breakup only happens with one cable, it's probably the connection to the dish that's faulty. Presumably the new LNB is a four-way (quattro)? If so you could try connecting to the spare connections on the LNB and see if that helps.

RE: Reception probs?
Thanks so much, Dave, that's the best help I've had so far. I posted an indepth question regarding this on a dedicated Sky forum and the replies have been less than helpful to say the least.

I haven't tested each cable independently as such, but I thought I could do similar by testing the faulty channels whilst not recording (which I'm presuming would use the feed from input one) and then test the other cable by means of recording on a good channel and checking the faulty channel (working on the presumption that this would then be on the second input, as the first was being used to record the good channel). Anyway, the test was inconclusive.

As for the signal test, this raises an interesting point. I checked the signal and both quality and strength were around the half way mark, but then I phoned Sky to report the problem and she did some form of signal 'boost' - after which the meters were right down to about a quater (if that) ?

How far out of alignment would the LNB have to be to create these problems? I fitted the bracket good and square to the LNB before slotting it into the arm, so it can't be that far out, if at all, can it?

Anyway, I'll try the cable swapping test and if that doesn't work, I'll use the other inputs on the LNB (yes, it is a quad).

Again, muchos gracias.
