lcd screen size for pc

Hi, hope everyone has enjoyed Christmas.

Could anyone tell me what is the largest screen that can be used with a PC?

I was wondering if LCD tv's can be used as PC monitors, and if so what the picture quality is like for use with games or watching movies.

i know that your lcd tv can work as a pc monitor because on the back of the tv you have got a vga connection i think the picture quality is good you need a special lead to connect you pc to the lcd tv i hope it helps ponty100

All depends on what you are comparing, what inputs and outputs you have, what cabling you use. Heck on some screens it can even depend on the batch as some manufacturers source panels from multiple manufacturers.

In general, yes you can normally connect a TV but the quality of the picture and how simple it is to do all depends on what equipment you have

As for largest... How much cash and room do you have? I'm betting you'll run out of both first

theres little difference now between tv's and monitors especialy 19'' up to 24'', bigger than that the tv loses picture quality to the monitor as the monitor will have higher dpi which means the bigger it gets the more horizontal and vertical pixels it has, not true of tv's a 42'' 1080p tv costing 700quid will normally have 1920/1080 pixels the same as a 26''1080p tv costing 400 the smaller tv if speced the same apart from screen size will have the sharper picture as a rule.

then theres the question of hardware to run it. atm there is only 1 format that will supply 1080p and that blueray. hidef tv signal is 720p maximum so unless you have a play-station 3 and use it for movies then you may as well just get a 720p
even if you have a xbox360 console buying 1080p is a waste of cash, the games rarely exceed 640p due to limits of the gfx hardware and its ability to produce the minimum of 29fps at higher rez. yes theres the odd game but realy 1 or 2 games doesn't justify the fact that you will never really see the potential of the screen realized.

if you want picture quality there is only so big b4 you start loosing it 32''-37'' is about the best compromise for tv's
for monitors your wallet is the limiting factor yes you can get 2500/2200 screens but you need extreme hardware to get the best from it and even then the reality is your gona be upscaling 1080p images at best...

so my advice. is go for a smaller screen with better picture quality. its pointless having a 52'' screen that your either sitting on top of or you cant see anything because every time something moves the screen washes into a blur.
