BBC1 - The Big Questions - Is porn bad for society?
BBC1 13/03/2011 | 10am-11am | The Big Questions

Discussion - Is porn bad for society?

Worth iPlayering, surprisingly balanced debate (so far) for this show, which is normally overstocked with religious types; although of course the usual anti-porn arguments are out in force though.

Taking part are Johnny Anglais, a female TVX producer (sorry didn't get the name) and Tilly Hardy (sporting very interesting hair, but putting herself across very well.)

yep watched this before you posted this. was a suprisingly balanced debate, normally when porn its debated its usually anti-porn. the usual anti porn arguments did irritate me a bit, but on the whole a good debate

So they trot out the very rare female producer? Is this to make look socially acceptable with women then. Rolleyes

Most porn is done by men for men.

People should watch inside deep throat for a good insight into the porn industry.

Most porn, yes; all porn, no. So presumably it was to show just that, and to give an female inside opinion of production in the porn industry. Do you not think it was good for balance that they invited a female producer?

The question before was regarding religon, so I thought that it was brave of Tilly and the others to appear on the show.

They did a good job expressing their views to a biased audience

It is essentially a religious programme with primarily a religious audience. It's quite interesting sometimes, but being the BBC they stay away from the biggy, 'Which religion is the right one?'. The closest they got was 'Does god exist?', which was discussed as a non-specific undefined monotheistic god - Polytheism rarely get's a look in - and consisted of a string of arguments from ignorance and the standard god of the gaps type stuff, with the occasional attack on 'militant' atheism which always makes me smile.

Trying to 'defend' pornography in front of an audience like that is really rather futile, but from what I saw they did a resonable job.

the woman called kathine from women against porn said porn increases the likelihood of sexual of crimes, it does not. stealing panties, peeping tom etc leads to sexual crimes, its like petty theft leads to armed robbery. the anit-porn brigade get confused about human trafficing which the women and children involved 90% of them are forced into prosituation, drugs and sexual abuse. i thought Liselle Bailey (tvx producer), tilly hardy and johnny anglais put their views across in a mature manor unlike the anti-porn brigade. also mainstream media (lads mags, womens mags etc) show only type of woman where as porn shows a wide range of women from younger (eg 18+ sasha gray) to older (vanessa vidal, deauxma, nina hartley), skinny to larger women (busty cookie). at point i thought tilly hardy was to hit the chap next to johnny for saying something that tilly did not say. mainstream porn is not bad for society, if you seen 8mm with nicholas cage in where he looks for someones daughter who disappeared and he finds that she was in a snuff movie (actually got killed at the end) while he is looking for her, he comes across raquin pheonix (sorry about spelling) who shows nicholas cage lot harder, nastier and brutual porn. its that sort of porn that damages societies.
