It was a sprint car race not the Sprint Cup which is NASCAR's headline championship.

Sorry I don't follow NASCAR very much.

It's an easy mistake to make. Sprint Cars are raced on Dirt ovals and are similar to what are called "Stock Cars" in the UK. The Sprint Cup is NASCAR's premier race series in the USA. Most races are on paved oval tracks of various lengths and a couple of conventional road courses. Sprint are the current title sponsor (they're a phone company). It was previously the NEXTEL Cup and before that the Winston Cup, as seen in the movie Days of Thunder.

As for the incident in which Kevin Ward Jnr died, the Police have said that Tony Stewart will not be charged but i would expect a civil suit from the Ward family. Stewart is famous for his bad temper...

Kevin ward was pretty stupid for running into the middle of a race track in the dark wearing all black when cars are going round at over 100 miles per hour, it was his own actions that caused it.
