Until they played Germany, who made five changes to the first XI, England Women had lost to both the teams ranked above them (Japan and France). Very similar to the men who had to face two higher ranked teams in their group (Uruguay and Italy) at the last World Cup. By the time they faced Costa Rica both teams had nothing to play for.
It must be said though the women's team have done very well.
