RE: R.I.P - Ueli Steck
I never know what to thik about these things, 40 years, half is life to come.
I will never understand why people throw their lives away on pointless things like this.
Reminds me of BEEPs fella, just married a very attractive woman, well out of his league, she just gave birth to his child and he was killed trying to climb a bit of a rock at Stoney Middleton. Wife without a new husband, kid with out a dad, half his life gone, for what?
17 year old kid lost both his legs becasue he wanted to go fast in circles.

No, but there's a very high risk facter to these essentially nothing more than pass times. People who do these things always think it can't happen to them.
It also reminds me of the youth who bizzarely hung off very high buildings, his mum was crippled with worry but he didn't give two shits about her as long as he was getting his own buzz.
I've never bought the 'closer to life' excuse either.
This is why i never know what to think, you have a young fit man loosing half of his life, leaving parents, wife, partner, children etc. For what? to climb a mountian that's been climbed doesn'ts of times that has claimbed the lifes of many others.
Nobody does these things seriously expecting that they will actually die, that happens to other people.

the man was a highly skilled, highly decorated professional alpinist and you're comparing him to idiot russian teenagers hanging off antennas and cranes.
there's a high risk factor to a lot of things in life. he did it because he enjoyed it and it payed the bills. if we all used your logic, nobody would leave the house and fuck all would get done.
Actually, it was a UK teenager, but the principle is the same, being so highly skilled and trained as not stoped him from loosing his life at a young age and his family loosing him. Last I knew those idiot teens were still alive - for now.
So your logic is, theres nothing in life between doing life threatening activities or being at home?
The difference is dear boy, some risk are avoidable, this was avoidable.
I haven't said it wasn't a tragidy for him and his family, I'm saying it it was a pointless waste of life.
PS I know exaclty who he was because i looked him up, I felt the same way with Alison Hargreaves, do you remember her?
