RE: Uber
Taxify, Lucy, Addison Lee etc etc etc. There are loads of options. Taxify claim that when they are licensed they will be cheaper than Uber, pay drivers more and fully comply with all regulations. I bet if any of these people complaining about the Uber ban were raped, molested or involved in any incident and subsequently discovered that the driver was not properly vetted or Uber had hidden from the police assault claims they would scream at TfL.

All UBER had to do was comply with the regulations that all other licenced companies have to do. But if you look at their track record around the world they abuse regulations and apologise later. They face numerous legal actions about their behaviour.

My guess is that after a protracted legal battle they will be forced to comply and they will be relicenced.

According to TFL there are currently 2,445 cab operators in London, so without Uber that would still leave 2,444 for people to choose from. Hardly grounds for a huge backlash.

The total number of drivers in London is currently 116,453 (plus 24,168 black cab drivers) so there isn't exactly a shortage. The union which represents Uber drivers says that 30,000 of these do Uber work (not 40,000 as you claimed earlier) and many of these work for other cab companies too, but even if you deducted the whole 30,000 from the total figure that would still leave 86,000 licensed drivers in London. Again, not exactly a shortage.

In short, no solution is needed because London already has plenty of cab operators and plenty of cab drivers.

London already has plenty of cab operators and plenty of cab drivers.

None of those operators pool access to 40,000 drivers under one easy to use app like Uber do. You are required to find and call a local cab office which is not always as easy as it sounds if you are trying to return home from another part of town after a late night. Availability of drivers is restricted their tiny local pool.

Khan can try as he might to stand in the way of progress and technology and consumer choice, in order to appease those vested interests leaning on him, but he will ultimately fail. He has also, at a stroke, ended any hope of a second term.

No, not so. There are several major competing cab hire apps. Uber do not represent progress and technology and consumer choice anymore than other operators in London using the same kind of systems.

RE: Uber
^^ Do you work for Uber by any chance Rake?. Very blinkered view of the facts of this case. There are loads of Apps available for different companies or groups of Taxi drivers. Why should one maverick law breaking company be allowed to get away with not complying with rules which are designed to apply to all operators? Oh and by all accounts they treat their drivers like crap which is why there have been complaints about UBER drivers peeing in bottles and dumping the piss on the roadside.

It's great having innovation but there is nothing to stop UBER or any other company complying with regulations which are to protect consumers. The fact they haven't shows what a bunch of cowboys they are.
